Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello folks,

I've got a bit of a problem I cannot get my existing hdd drive to create unenough free allocated space to enable me to create a new partion. Has anyone done this successfully?

I'd very much like to install linux on the machine and figure I need 15-20gig free for that I have 30gig atm, but it is all part of the one drive.

Is there a way I can create a partion that will not involve wiping my whole hdd and creating the partions from the boot?

Also my hard drive is supposely 320gig yet displays as barely 300gig :(

If you choose linux mint, live cd, boot it up,after it boots click install ,it,ll install if theres 6gig free space, the install program will say x amount free ,click, install,ok, make /format partition .on a p4 1.5ghz installlation takes around 25minutes,or less.write down the password ,if you lose it you,ll be locked out from the linux os.
on a 300gig drive 20 gig missing is not important.

I'm wanting to use back track 4.

I'd need to check it does the same.

It however comes with an install.sh so I wouldn't mind checking whats in that.

Is it the norm that linux, will install ok.

I can imagine two os on the same hdd partion can lead to annoyness and conflict.

Anyone with experience in this able to lend their advice.

I've only ever used backtrack as a live cd. But you cant have two OSes on the one partiton (well ignoring virtualisation for that point). If you have a mint or ubuntu liveCD they come with a tool called gparted which I find much easier to use than windows partition manager.
You dont have to install them afterwards.

The reason your hard drive is only 300GB is likely the fact that computers measure a gigabyte as 1024x1024x1024 bytes whereas the people that sell them measure it as 1000x1000x1000 bytes.

Dont forget to back up any important info as partitioning can go wrong!
