it actually came in a box as well, they're obviously taking it very seriously.

it's got a much more intense, fuller flavour than the regular stuff too, very tasty. :)

I've never had Marmite before! Does it taste like Maggi by any chance?

I would think this law is designed bacause of chancers like K******'s with their junk food masquerading as "fortified with vitamins and iron", which is probably a good thing, but I guess the old Marmite is collateral damage.

Thank you K******'s for a childhood of eating a bowl of F******s each breakfast and having a mouth full of fillings to show for it! :pac: I might as well have been given a Mars Bar and a can of Coke each morning.

Not really .. you just have to try it. I like it on hot buttered toast, marmite soldiers and a nice runny boiled egg :D Be careful at first and don't spread it too thickly, just a thin smear to start with and build up to what you feel comfortable with .. if you ever do, that is :)

Wouldn't mind trying a jar of that stuff that vibe66 has!

I find Marmite too salty, I prefer Vegemite TBH.
Oh and if you are in New Zealand the Marmite there taste quite different to the UK version.

the trick with having marmite for the first time is to be very very sparing with it until you are used to the flavour, as it can be a bit of an assault on the taste buds if you're not expecting it.

it's a very yeasty twangy affair, so just take it very easily until you know what you're getting into. i think a lot of people who say they hate it would have actually come to love it if they'd taken it easy the first time, but people smear it on like jam and it's just so overpowering they find it disgusting.

slow and steady until you know what level of intensity suits you.

just saw this on B3ta and thought it was apt. :D

Marmite wasn't banned, nor was vegemite.

Fraft just hasn't complied with the law. Their own fault is they lose out really

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,420 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Yeah, I meant Kraft, they are the suppliers of Vegemite.
i'm not sure who imports Marmite in Dennamrk, maybe its unilevel direct, either way it applies to them too

Tesco have an own brand yeast extract - cheaper then Marmite.
    Got some to try it.
It's pretty good, different to Marmite, less bitter.
I think I'd prefer Marmite at a push but that's probably just because |I'm more used to the taste.
Tesco stuff will get used up, though.

Spread thinly on bread, toast or crackers is great.
No, it doesn't make a great drink but you can add it to stews and soups (sparingly).

It really is one of those love or hate things.
    Like salt licorice (I love).

i really think that a lot of people are turned off by having putting it on too thick initially as it is a very strong taste and takes a bit of getting used to.

for your first time, just spread about 1 to 1.5 m&m's worth (not the peanut one :)) and spread it as thinly as possible on hot buttered toast and see how you go from there adding more if you can handle it. ;)
