Durable earphones for running

    Hi folks,

I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a durable set of earphones for running. I don't know how many sets of earphones I have been through with my ipod. My problem is that I constantly seem to lose the sound on one side of it, so am looking for a pair that is more durable. As I've been through so many I am sceptical on spending too much money on them.

    Thanks

    MM

I got the Philips ones mentioned in this thread for a few months back & am very happy with them.

Thanks opus, I'm not a fan of the wrap around earphones, as I had a few of them before. The earphones falling out is not an issue. I've read a bit about these one's but was hoping to pick up a pair in town in the next day or two rather than wait for them to be delivered.

    Thanks for your help though

I got a pair of Auria earphones at a runners expo recently and they are very snug. You can probably buy them from Amazon.

I think these are the best available

I run, mountain bike and have used them snowboarding.

I had bought these more than 2 years ago

I use them all the time when running and even brought them snowboarding before. They travelled around Korea and S.E Asia with me as well.

I have weird shaped ears too and I don't like normal earphones where the buds stick in your ear and they're expected to fit in. Plus they tend to only last me 3-4 weeks before they break beneath the plastic coating or else the buds just snap off.

In saying that, I did break mine recently when I yanked them too quickly from under some heavy things in the boot of my car. I went straight over to argos when I realised what i did and bought another pair.

Ignore all the other advice on here, and do what I have ended up doing.

Go into your local €2 shop and buy 5 sets of earphones for a tenner. Check all of them immediately for good sound quality, then use them up over the space of a couple of years. Instead of trying to get one set of expensive durable ones to last for ages, treat them almost like disposables.

I do this now and am far better off than when I was losing a €10-20 set of earphones every few months due to accident, breakage, loss of function etc.

On the one hand I really like the disposable earbuds idea. However, I am also as fussy as an obese little princess what hasn't had her daily candyfloss... so I bought the really expensive Sennheiser Adidas ones that hook behind each ear.

I did this because I had sweat-destroyed or rain-destroyed 4 sets (including cheap sets) over a year and was starting to get cranky.

They actually tell you you can run them under the tap if they get dirty, they're very comfy, they come with a remote for your iPod and they seem very robust. They stay where you put them. I like. :)

Of course, I should say that you shouldn't train with 'phones on as you should
    1) focus on your running form and breathing and "associating" with what you're doing not "dissociating" and
    2) not be a traffic hazard

But I would never say things like that because that would be hypocritical.
