There are a few general threads running about the Presidential nominees at the moment, but as yet none have secured nominations.

If the mods agree, I wonder if we might just have one thread for updates on nominations and expressions of interest, as the numerous threads on these individuals are getting confusing.

So far, those who have expressed interest for 2012 are

    Labour
    Kathleen O'Meara
    Michael D Higgins
    Fergus Finlay

    Fine Gael

    Mairead McGuinness
    Sean Kelly

    Fianna Fail
    Brian Crowley

    Non-Party
    Mary Davis
    Sen. David Norris
    Sean Gallagher

Also mentioned, but who have not expressed an interest formally:
Ferghal Quinn, Pat Cox, John Bruton

If there's anyone I'm forgetting, or anything to clarify, please say

John Bruton ruled himself out today after being asked by FG to put his name forward for selection.

John Bruton ruled himself out today after being asked by FG to put his name forward for selection.
That's not particularly surprising given that he was said by Phil Hogan not to have "huge enthusiasm" for the job. It appears as though Bruton might have only been willing to take on the FG candidacy if there were unanimous backing, but about two days ago Mairead McGuinness seemed to hit back at such an idea when she said
“I am convinced first of all that it is important for every candidate contesting the presidency to come through a democratic selection process of some kind. [...] and like everybody who puts themselves forward for election I will strive, might and mane, to succeed.”

It looks like the FG nomination is Mairead's for the taking.
