Personal Wireless Router

Hi all, I've my own Wireless Router and would like to use it instead of the UPC one. Do I need to get UPC to send me a Modem to replace the wireless they gave me? Or can i turn off the wireless part of it and just use it as a Modem and connect my personal wireless router to it ? As always thanks for your replies. Neon
