In the "stream" underneath NUIG's concourse yesterday I spotted a large duck, about twice the size of a mallard, same green head, white breast, brown/white feathers, black bill. Haven't seen one before - anyone have any ideas?

Shelducks would have a distinct red bill, maybe it was a Shoveller ?
Or some sort of Mallard/domestic duck cross

Nah, 'twasn't a shelduck. Thought of shoveller, but don't think so. I'll try catch a photo of some description this evening.

Looking forward to the photo - my assumption so far would be that it is a lost domestic duck! :)

Spotted him again today. Unfortunately the only camera I had was the crappy one on my phone, so he's pretty much invisible in the pictures.

Green head, white breast, orange feet, all outer feathers brown, think there may be white under the wings. Bill was grey but yellowing at the edges - or else he'd stuck it in a pile of yellow stuff.

It is a male Mallard/Domestic duck hybrid
