Hi i have being having a major Lag issues when connecting to friends online (Virgin Media UK users) . So i have been looking into this problem all day . And found the Problem after doing a traceroute to my friends IP Address in the UK .

So when i did the Traceroute i was connecting to the irish servers no problem with low ping and then it went to a server in the US and then back to the UK .

After taking the scenic route to the US for some unknown reason the ping was 243ms .

I called eircom and the were about as usefull as an ashtray on a motorbike ,

They said there is no problem with my connection so why was i complaining to them .
I replied ; if i wanted to get a taxi to the next town 5 miles away i would not expect to be brought via Dublin 150 miles away

I have also done 2 more traceroutes, One was to 1 more virgin media user in the UK with the same problem .
The other was to a sky broadband user in the uk and i had no problems with that connection.

Can anyone here give me some advice on how i would go about getting this problem sorted out.

@Spear - looks like the OP is going through the Limerick nodes.

That hud.newyork.eircom.net is not the USA by the way - thats actually in Cork. Its probably a node before it switches to the US.

Its a peering issue I reckon, but I don't think its actually from Eircoms end - it may be an issue on Virgin's side.

There had been an issue with UPC routing in Limerick, hence the question since I wondered if it was related.

But there's a massive spike in latency inside the Eircom network.

Yeah, tracert from Dublin gives the same results. Tried a few other UK IPs - none go via the US so I guess it's probably a Virgin Media issue.

I reckon that route isn't from Eircoms side though.
