    Hey guys,
Looking to get into cycling as a form of exercise and a past time. Looking to buy a decent bike in the Galway area if possible. Budget is around €500 so I think second hand is my only option.

Any advice is appreciated ! What should I look out for ? :)

There's probably loads of threads on this if you do a search.

you are going to need helmet, cycling shoes and jersey shorts to enjoy it fully so budget these in
make sure you get the right size bike for you as that is very important
you should be looking for a 2nd hand bike with aluminium frame and tiagra or 105 groupset. best to bring a friend that knows a bit about bikes with you.

with the bike to work tax scheme you may be able to make the €500 spread further in a bike shop if you can use it

Thanks, stuff like the groupset is what has me confused. Only really heard of Shimano before browsing this forum.......I've a lot to learn.

I think second hand might be the way to go. Take for example this bike

Looks good to me, but what do I know ?

Frame size is very important, that's a 58cm frame which would probably suit someone between 5ft11" and 6ft3" depending on body dynamics, and more to the middle of that range.

Buying a bike that fits you is the most important thing. If you can't avail of the Bike2Work scheme adverts.ie or the cycling adverts forum are 2 good places to start for a decent 2nd hand bike.
