100m....You or Bolt ?!

So..........just happened on a link recently where it analysed Usain Bolt's 100m record, 9.58sec, and of course it got me thinking, could I beat him to the line on me auld bike (standing start also), and I reckon it's gotta be a close contest !!
Tha analysis of his sprint is as follows: hits 25km/h after 20m, 41km/h at the 40m mark, then slowy rises to 45km/h at the 80m mark and crosses the line at 43km/h.
So........can it be done ?!

Standing start, don't think so.

Now, if it was a rolling start, downhill, with a tail wind...

Weirdly enough, I was thinking about this yesterday and I came to the conclusion that it was impossible. (for me anyway)

Yeah, a sporting event where Cav takes the Bolt would be a good showpiece, maybe it should be slightly uphill to give Bolt a chance .
Someone has analysed it and the conclusion is that the cyclist would win, by 0.16sec !!

About 100m or so depending on the track length by the looks of it! Would a top sprinter be quicker with gears than on a fixie over 100m from a standing start?

Track is 250m there so I'd say that they're about 100m in at 10 seconds.

I doubt Cav or any other road sprinter would get anywhere near what a one-lap specialist lead man in a team-sprint can achieve. They're more akin to power lifters than road cyclists. He'd be geared to hit top speed at the end of his 250m effort so I'm sure that an extra tooth or two on that cog and he'd be faster to 100m than Bolt.

It takes them about 7 seconds to get a quarter of the way round the track (62m or so)

Top sprinters do 200m in less than 10s from a flying start, and therefore at top speed they will do 40m in about 2 seconds (which means from a flying start a top sprinter will do 100m in less than 5s)

They won't be up to top speed after a quarter lap though, so it looks pretty close to me

They would get up to speed quicker with gears, and I think a top cyclist would just about win

I'd have Michael Johnson over 400m though;)

100m? I wouldn't even beat him over 200m!

It'd be interesting to see Bolt versus someone like Hoy over 100m though!

So the general consensus is that it would be close. It would make good entertainment, eg. have a group of the top 10 sprinters & cyclists and run them off against each other until you are down to the last 2.
Could someone try it out, ie. get a 100m flat section and time your sprint, I don't think there's a 100m of flat road near me !!!
