It is quuite extraordinary the relationship that has developed between Norris and The Sindo ! Does anyone have any idea of what is motivating it ?

Probably the Sindo not wanting Higgins to come within an asses roar of the presidency or to try and dissuade SF from running a candidate.

I did also if it was an attempt to divert attention from the forthcoming publication of the mahon tribunal.

If David Norris has any sense he will come out and deny this story.
Saying that he is behind the story himself is complete bulls*** in my opinion. How many self-inflicted injuries could a man take ?

He will be on the Late Late next Friday so we'll all know by then if not before.

The media has a commercial interest in getting Norris into the campaign. Without Norris, we're going to have a very dull campaign with a low turn out.

  • Site Banned Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭paddyandy

He would bring all the miasma of low culture to the Arus and at a
time like this we need all the dignity we have. We're Cap in Hand these
days & the international business social scene is replete with humour about our banking system.
The Germans think we're funny and Germans are difficult to amuse
about serious matters.Norris brings a new and vile Mystique to the office it's a signal victory all the way for the lower elements who preoccupy themselves with every activity below the waist and very little above it.His appointment will create a stronger call for a new right wing a new party???

This is very true.. But from Norris' own point of view, he would be crazy to re-enter the campaign.. Didnt Joe Jackson say that there were "other worse things in the pipeline" that the papers were about to release ? ...

Has Norris himself actually confirmed or denied this story?

With FF support apparently... Cant be true surely, I had hoped we had seen the last of this fool.

As a member of FF, this won't be happening, the Sindo strikes again for speculative rubbish to put on its front page.

FF are desperate to be to able to claim any kind of political victory.

Norris is about the only candidate who could be supported by FF without it being a kiss of death. Anyone else and the electorate would avoid voting for them just to spite FF.

Senator Norris to state publicly and unequivoca..
that he is once more a candidate for the 2011 Presidenti..
    race 4/1

Surely if this story was reliable paddy power would have slashed these odds to nothing.

the only positive i could take from it if norris was backed by FF would be for worse allegations to come out to torpedo norris and mortally wound FF in the process

Get it into your head, FF will not be backing Norris, the reason the Sindo prints rubbish like this is the amount of people willing to take iot as gospel.

It's good if he runs, as the people should decide rather than the media.

I really hope he doesn't win though; what an embarrassment, and would make it more difficult for us to criticise the church for their tolerance of child-molesters. Imagine President David Norris having to criticise the Vatican for how they deal with child abuse. They would rightly laugh at us.

I would imagine him being nominated by FF would by the kiss of death for him though. Anyone I know who wants to vote for him is very anti-FF. As he's considered the anti-establishment vote.

Isn't this the country of sheeple that voted ff in again and again and then on the brink of Bertie obvioulsy taking the country in its present mire - yet again?

Then we had the re-run of the Lisbon Treaty on the ff / lab / fg promise of 'jobs'?

The World if not the Euro elite is already laughing at us

I reckon ff coming in behind a paedophile wanna be might also pleasingly be the kiss of death for ff and not so much for the PWBe

Where is Brendan Smith when Ireland now needs a Presidential Candidate?

If you are homophobic, at least have the courage to say so, rather than hiding behind terms like 'low culture', 'vile Mystique' () and 'lower elements'.

Fortunately the bulk of the Irish population is rather more humane and has seen past these medieval attitudes.

Seems like Norris was infatuated with that man then and maybe still is. He's apologised.

Time for him to come back into the race. The other people in it are dire.

ah come on - folk don't want a paedophile apologist and wanna be that happens to be gay and they are classed 'homophobic - give real views a chance rather than demeaning it to the peurile divide of pro norrris - ok vs anti norris - homophobic ... lets class them paedophobic perhaps?

Norris is pro paedo-sexual - I don't think he has denied this ever - he loves the thought of it all - he is a paedo wanna be.

    A dirty old man.

actually I am not sure he did?

Time for him to come back into the race. The other people in it are dire.

yes the present candidates are dire for sure but no need for us as a nation laughed at from abroad and within for letting priests ride our children, to then elect a chap wanting by his own admission have children groomed and then rode by him and his ex partner (who was in fact his then present partner), not to mention his wanting to be abused himself as a child and support of pro paedophile associations in the past.

How would Enda Kenny be positioned gining out to the vatican about their priests with a president dripping at the mouth checking out the kids on primary school visits?

Not only should this same chap not be in an election for our presidency - his senatorship and his election to the same said position should be examined and a decison made as to his removal - he is a disgrace.

    Sorry did I say...

Norris is a disgrace. A cheapening of our national honour. A belittlement of us as a people.

Its to OUR shame as a nation that he is a spokesperson in the Senate.

Where is Brendan Smith when we need a liberal spokesperson in the Senate??

Perhaps not yeats enough for liberal folk today......

I heard David Norris is gay.

    I never knew that

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Low life hijacks terms that were respectable 30 years ago and uses them to cover filthy ways. Gay had quite a different meaning 30 years ago and Homophobic is a gross misuse of Homo=Man & phobos= Fear nothing at all to do with their FILTHY behaviour.

You've exposed yourself as a homophobe already on Boards. I suggest you travel back to the 19th century where your primitive outlook would find a better reception.

Decency involves butting out if the "issue" is between 2 consenting adults and absolutely no-one else.

The only reason there's an objection to Norris is because of his views re underage sex with an adult.

Well in fairness catholic Ireland pushed the idea that sex was unwholesome down our necks.
