Dropbox unlinked itself?

Anyone ever turned on their computer and had Dropbox act like you've never run it before?

I've been using Dropbox all year to store study notes. Today I restarted my computer and a box came up asking if I already had an account or needed to make one. I entered my account details and it asked me where to put my Dropbox folder, despite there already being one. I let it merge the folders, now when I click on the icon it says "downloading 257 files", and it's been downloading them for hours without giving me any idea of how far along it is. There isn't a huge amount of data, just 6% of 3.1GB since it's all Word documents, and the vast majority of those are also stored on the computer anyway so there is no reason it should take long if it's syncing everything.

I used MacDropAny (I'm running Snow Leopard) to link my "School" folder with a folder inside of Dropbox. It's never given me a moment of trouble until now... 8 days before the Leaving Cert... So I really need the peace of mind that everything I type is being stored both on my computer and online automatically.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem?

More than likely something happened to the Dropbox folder. I only ever see anything like that if Dropbox starts before my Drobo is finished starting up and mounting.

That was my first thought, but the folders haven't been moved or modified. I rarely even navigate to the folders themselves, I usually access stuff by 'file>open recent' in Word or just a spotlight search if its an old file.

Everything in the Dropbox folder has a red X on the icon except for the folder that's synced to my school notes. Not really sure why that would be.

After re-installing, it "downloaded" its 257 files in a few minutes. However, it still doesn't work- while the dropbox folder and icon have green tick icons, everything in the folder has a red X on the icon and nothing new I add gets synced.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm going to need to move back to just manually copying everything onto a USB if I can't get it to work today, I need to have my notes with me at all times.
