Hi, ttc 2.5 yrs so thought i'd give this a go to see if anyone is in the same boat, as i dont seem to be getting any answers off of the net. I was told i have high prolactin and was on Dostinex which worked and brought my level down. I am since attending another clinic and have since been put on Parlodel and am waiting to see if its working. I have had an MRI which has come back normal (so no pituitary tumour) and i get my period every month and always have. I feel like i'm going around in circles and dont know why it hasn't happened for us yet. Does this sound similar to anyone else, if so does anyone know what the next step is?

    Hi SR23,
I began a thread some months ago because I am TTC and high prolactin however in my case it is caused by a pitutuary tumor.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056025057

I have been on parlodel since November and have been referred to an endocrinologist who I saw in March. She adjusted my dosage, however my prolactin levels have been normal since November, and I have yet to concieve. I have regular periods, and ovulate, so the fertility specialist is moving onto injections to stimulate ovulation - I am due to meet her in 2 weeks so will have more to report back. I am 2 years TTC and I guess now I am in the 'unexplained infertility' camp.

In my case, I purposely went into the GP without being asked to get monthly bloods done on this, and you do need to push for more.

I take it you have been checked for ovulation? have your tubes been checked? and your partner ok for semen analysis? I would ask for a fertility referral from your GP to get the ball rolling.

Also, there is a chat thread at the top of the forum that I found really helpful in the last year - all lovely women going through varied ttc issues. You should join us, chances are that whatever procedure treatment you might get recommeded, someone on there has had it. :)

Thanks so much, its good to here from people going through the same thing.
I've had a hsg and saline scan, all tubes were fine with no abnormalities. I've been to Sims and am currently attending the Rotunda (public, so slow moving). My partners inital semen analysis was bad so thats why we started investigating, turned out when he got it re done privately it was fine and thats when the problems with my prolactin came to light. The last progesterone test showed i wasn't ovulating but i think that was because my prolactin was high (1350).
I think they may start me on clomidwhen i go back for referral in August, just feel like i'm in limbo at the moment.

Make sure your prolactin tests are done first thing in the morning for a more accurate reading...

Hi ladies. Im a first time boards poster but felt I needed to give you some hope. I was diagnosed with high prolactin (2000) in the summer and was sent for an MRI on pituitary. This came back clear thankfully and other bloods suggested that I didn't have any kidney, liver or other problems. Saw the endocrinologist. His advice to my frustration was to relax! Found this annoying but I was becoming a bit obsessed I suppose. Threw out ovulation monitors, stopped thinking babies etc.. He asked for me to do 4 more bloods prior to my next visit. ( a month later) Levels were decreasing and my second last bloods were 250 so was thrilled. Shotlived though as next test was over 2000 again! Had been sick so the Endo put it down to that. No sign of a period the following week so chanced a test! Would u believe it was positive. So thrilled and very surprised. I know people are going through a difficult time but relaxing about it even in the space if two months allowed my levels to drop low enough to conceive. I hope that my story might help others. Fingers crossed for you all. X
