Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey STB,

Thank you for the reply and appreciate the help, although I am sure that none of the issues you mentioned specifically are relevant here, I may have done something else that has the same result; a dead box.

The firmware was one I downloaded from here, with an embedded channel list, which caused no difficulty for those who used it; and which seemed to work perfectly for me.

I did note that when I switch on the unit, the TV goes to the scart channel the box is plugged into, blue screen, and when I power off goes back to the original scart. This may be evidence for your theory.

Anyway, I will try it this evening and get back to you, thanks again.

I'm afraid this will not work too well. If you can, run another cable from the dish from a spare port (if you have one) on your lnb .

Just wondering if it is possible to play recordings made on a memory stick through the usb port on a TV. I've tried with a tv and and dvd player and get "no video files found".
Did you record these on the Ferguson 120 and if so, what size of stick, write speed etc., are you using. I thought you couldn't use anything other than an external powered hard drive. I'd be interested to know if others have used either the usb stick or portable hard drive successfully on the Ferguson 120.

Your symptoms are incorrect/corrupt firmware. Unless you can get to the USB upload menu (blue screen of death says you cant) your only option is the recovery method discussed in my original post through the r232 port. Believe me its highly relevant and the only way to bring the box back to life.

That is normal behaviour for any scart devices. You have something else plugged into the other scart. The Ferguson box is on the scart that gets preference on start up - it is scart 1 socket probably. What is your set up with the scarts ? Are they going to 2 different scart inputs on a TV ?

I am presuming that you are viewing the right scart source. You dont have the ferguson looped through a video recorder do you ?

Did you try the other scart cable directly from the TV to the Ferguson. Do you have the option of trying the HDMI ?

Also : 0001 on box - what happens when you press the + button on the ferguson box - does it change to 0002 ? That will prove whether your box is responsive and if that is the case the problem is a simple combination of wrong source being viewed/looping through VCR confusion and/or dodgy remote.

Just in case its something simple.

I've used both a simple usb stick and a powered hdd with the 120 - no problem in either case. Of course you will have limited space on an ordinary usb stick. Very handy though for testing.

Thanks for the post. I am really not interested with the recording aspect. I am more interested in the luxury of the pause TV features. Then the usb stick method from what you tell me fits the bill.

I have recorded on to a 16gb usb stick that I picked up in Tesco for 20 yoyos:D. I have also recorded on to a 500gb ext hdd. The both play back perfectly through the box. Just tried them on the pc. REalplayer is my default player and that is a no go. Now to look for freeware to play ts files:)

Just the news I wanted to hear, thanks for that. Yes, I agree with Celtxx regarding the VLC player. I use it and it seems to play everything. It will even allow you to play NTSC DVD's.

Format factory will also do it in reverse - encode a video file into a DVB H264 TS for playback on the Ferguson and other satellite boxes - of course since the ferguson plays mkv's you can also encode to that format in the event that the video is in another format. Infact its an excellent converter all round.

    VLC plays everything.....

Yes I recorded on a 4gb Kingston USB stick just to try it out. only a half hour show. I have a 500gb hard drive for longer recording.
I just wondered if I could take the recording on the stick to a tv in another room as I don't like carrying the hard drive around. I presume the reason the stick won't work on the other tv is that the file is wrong.

The TV - what formats does it play ? Does it play TS files ? You probably would have to convert it to an MKV using free format factory.

Thanks again for your help, as I said in my first post, it was after I switched on that I noticed the frozen 0001 and a blue screen, pressing +/- did nothing; it was than that I unplugged/replugged, the consequence of which was a dead box and still a blue screen, not even a stand by light.

I only wish it was one of the simple solutions you noted in your post, but alas no, the box is dead.

You did say in your post to follow the instruction in the downloaded file (ariva_HDCombo_upgrader.zip), except that there are no instructions and 3 .exe files; so not sure what to do?

Again, my friend, can you help?

    - Download listing from http://www.mediafire.com/?9czjk8m8tyv76om ( Thanks Willyb007)

    - Open file
    - Expand 'All Services'
    - Expand 'Satellite Information'
    - Scroll to bottom and expand 'DVB-T'
    - Right Click 'TP_6820_V_0' and select Edit
    - Change Freq to new setting ( Carinn Hill use Freq 7300, try sym rate 1000 )
    - click Okay
    - Save File

    Load onto the box.

    Good Luck

Those instruction are for how to change the DTT freq for different transmitters, to avoid rescanning and possibly messing up the channel listing.

You will need to use Willby007's new file in quote above.

I'm sorry I cannot answer questions on this thread on any product but the ariva combo as this is not a commercial interaction forum . I've been given a lot of latitude in this regard by the mods already and do not want to abuse this favour by talking about other products on boards. I had this boxed up til the new firmware was released. Unboxed it tonight, stuck it up in the bedroom and ran a coax cable from the RF out on the Triax TR112 box in the sitting room and an LNB from the Quad LNB on the satellite dish and it works great. No sync issues at all. However the TV in the bedroom is "supposed" to be HD Ready...it's a Sanyo but the HDMI picture is green and there's no sound so using scart instead which is grand. This is a fault with the telly though as opposed to the box I'd say. Top notch little piece of kit. Thanx to STB for the initial post and Tony for customer service that goes way beyond any customer service I've ever experienced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭Trevord

This is a common enough problem with HDMI devices.

Try changing channels on the box or change the tv source to av/scart and then back to HDMI. The picture may then appear.

The TV is the Silvercrest 32" full HD that was on sale in Lidl recently, I think somebody on here thought it was a rebadged Walker. I'll download Free Format factory and see if I can convert the USB stick to a file that works

Format Factory is a video converter. So what you will be doing is converting the TS file to a video format that the Silvercrest can play. You just drag and drop the file into format factory (or open it).

The Silvercrest will play MPEG & AVI formats. So use the all to AVI function of Format Factory when installed. It will take about a half an hour for an 1hr and half recording. You then lash the AVI file onto your USb stick. http://www.formatoz.com/download.html

Well finally got my aerial hooked up and have seen finally the sync issue that has now been fixed.
Will upgrade the firmware shortly. Only seeing the issue on 3e - weird thing is it seems almost like the whole feed is being disrupted or broken - but rest of stations seem clear as a bell.

Thanks For all the hard work on getting this fixed - loving the box - great piece of kit.

Hoping that the fix may address the EPG not updating for all channels until they are selected but in the scheme of things that is only a small pain so am not worried about it.

    from 23-06
    - Download editor from http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/func-startdown/841/

    - Download listing from << Willy's latest listing http://www.mediafire.com/?kt9ght87dhk59pc > TALTOS ADDED THIS LINK FROM WILLY'S EARLIER UPDATE>

    - Open file
    - Expand 'All Services'
    - Expand 'Satellite Information'
    - Scroll to bottom and expand 'DVB-T'
    - Right Click 'TP_6820_V_0' and select Edit
    - Change Freq to new setting ( Carinn Hill use Freq 7300, try sym rate 1000 )
    - click Okay
    - Save File

    Load onto the box.
Have a few questions but here is the path I followed.
    1. downloaded app as above & Willy's new file.
    2. opened Willy's new file with firmware embedded -
    - had to change file type on open screen to abs
    - Chose: User Data Base
choosing the other option here hides some options - eg cannot see the DVB-T listing
    3. Expanded "All Services" & "Satellite Information" "DVB-T" & but update to what?
    Looking at this site http://www.mpeg4ireland.com/dtt-muxes
I cannot see an entry that corresponds to Cairn hill?
    eg from above
    - Change Freq to new setting ( Carinn Hill use Freq 7300, try sym rate 1000 )
But on this site - Cairn hill appears to be
    Cairn Hill Longford 47 41 44 51 B H
so in range of 682000 to 714000 ??
FYI - I am in / close to Greystones so will use a different setting.

    4. - So assuming i can update the above - next step is to save - will use same name and filetype and then load.

I know my question on the frequencies is probably obvious - but I just cannot seem to find a proper hit on google for this - sorry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 346 ✭✭An.Duine.Eile

Sorry, I confused Clermont Carn and Cairn Hill.

Cairn Hill is ch 47 -> freq 6820
    Clermont Carn is ch 53 -> 7300

yes save over existing file. Don't think there is a save as option.
