I've decided not to renew membership in my club this year and therefore lose my official GUI handicap.

If I was to play in team event where Non-GUI golfers can play what should I play off? My old GUI handicap or the Non-GUI handicap set by the organisers?

Is there any official GUI stance on this and if I was to rejoin a club would I have to submit 3 cards again?

Well if you were playing off 5 and they wanted to give you 18 you may as well fill in your card in the clubhouse!!

If you are off 25 and they want to give you 18 it's a different story.

I think there is something that if you rejion you will be given your old handicap once you had an active one in the previous 3 years. I may be wrong though

If you're not a member, you don't have an official handicap.
If you decide to join a club again, you can transfer your previous handicap once it's within 6 months since you held it.
After 6 months you would have to submit 3 cards for a new handicap...

Most logical thing to do is just play off old handicap so seen as there is no clear rule when returning to non-gui status. Or else make honest estimation on what you think your current handicap would be given the lack of golf played lately

Given the amount of people not rejoining clubs this year I presume non-gui events are going to become more popular.

In order to be allocated a CONGU® Handicap you must first be a member of an affiliated golf club .... for more info see: http://www.congu.com/obtaining.htm

GUI site – Handicap basics: An official GUI Handicap (CONGU® Unified Handicap) can be allotted only to a Member of a golf club that is affiliated, as defined, to the GUI: http://www.gui.ie/template1.asp?parent=23&pid=30&parent2=30&area=1

    I'm a college student (9/10 handicap)

I haven't joined up this year as I am moving to Galway for 6 months for an internship. Will I lose my handicap so?

Joining regardless really isn't an option this year
