Busted BD lens after 2¾ years

    Hi folks,
As per thread title, my PS3 BD lens has given up the ghost after 2¾ years - is it worth a shot in the small claims court, or does that only bring the effective guarantee period up to 2 years?

I know I could get a replacement lens on ebay for about €50 (is it a messy job to replace?), or there's a crowd up in Kinsealy that will replace the lens for €130 all-in. This is almost half the price of a new 160GB slim, I'd nearly be tempted to flog the PS3 as a media player and get a new one.

    Any advice / experience appreciated...

Small claims court. No way that should be packing up in less than 3 years.

worth a shot, but if they throw the warranty issue at you it may be best to just leave it. Where did you purchase?

Hardly Normals, July 08. Just before the 60GB came out (got an extra DualShock for €1 more, so wasn't too bothered).

Update - I happened to be in HN yesterday, and a very helpful checkout assistant gave me a reprint of the original sales voucher. It turns out I had purchased an extra two years' warranty (which runs out the middle of next month). So, I'm covered - result!

What can I expect to happen when I turn up there with my PS3 - a new slim (as the fat ones aren't on sale any more), or a refurb, or will they try to repair it? Any experience here of warranty claims with Harvey Norman?

*runs off home to backup all saves etc*.
