Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There's no charming speed cameras :(

I was kinda lucky though, 1 more MPH and it would have been a mandatory court appearance...

How the hell can a tyre be both squared off and worn out on the sides at the same time?

    Burnouts me thinks

Saw a very nice Dainese vintage leather jacket in Bikeworld today. Pic1 Pic2 It was€375, now down to €300 - he said it's the last one left and they do not make them any more. I really should not be spending this money right now but I'm tempted to stick it o the credit car as it fitted really well and I have not really been able to find it online or any I like as much. Thing is, I could get a two piece leather suit from RST etc for about €400 - although I do really like this jacket. Ugh, I'm torn!

Two piece leathers will serve you much better than a stylish leather jacket!

Jaysus indeed! It was my workmates Fazer 600, actually. It had even less front brakes. He asked me if I wanted to take a cut off it.... I declined his offer.

Its long, but worth the read

    Race with a Harley

I raced a Harley today and after some really hard riding I managed
to PASS the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really
twisting sections of mountain road with no straight sections to
speak of and where most of the bends have warning signs that
    say "MAX SPEED 50 KPH".

I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those
big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where
handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone.

I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could
catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and
cornering. Three corners later, I was on his mudguard. Catching him
was one thing; passing him would prove to be another.

Two corners later, I pulled up next to him as we sailed down the
mountain. I think he was shocked to see me next to him, as I nearly
got by him before he could recover. Next corner, same thing. I'd
manage to pull up next to him as we started to enter the corners but
when we came out he'd get on the throttle and out-power me. His
horsepower was almost too much to overcome, but this only made me
    more determined than ever.

My only hope was to out-brake him. I held off squeezing the lever
until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an
instant I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of
his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before
the road straightens out and he would pass me for good.

But now I was in the lead and he would no longer hold me back. I
stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the
canyon, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see
    him in my rear-view mirror.

Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles
before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred yards. I
was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the
tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more
than horsepower and deep pockets, I had passed him. Though it was
not easy, I had won the race to the bottom of the mountain and I had
preserved the proud tradition of one of the best bits of Brit iron.

I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedaled
so hard in my life. And, some of the credit must go to Raleigh
cycles, as well. They really make a great bicycle...

    Well that's that.

My little Busa's sold and gone. The flight to New Zealand is this day 3 weeks. I have a shortlist of bikes to see in NZ. I'm getting the jitters now!

Tell me about it! I booked the ticket just three weeks ago and the whole thing has taken a momentum of it's own. Before I booked the ticket, I wasn't even sure if I was going to b*tch out. No turning back now.

Lads, what's the story with posting videos on youtube from a bike mounted camera? I just got a GoPro camera and make a few nice videos at the weekend, had the camera mounted to the side of my helmet - looks really good but you can see my speedo. Now It was raining and I was not going that fast, but I would have gone above the speed limit by a bit a good few times I'm sure. I've heard you should not post this stuff online as strictly you can get done, but is that just rumours? I'm sure if you were doing 100mph+ on main roads etc they might hunt you down, but do you think I'm ok to put my videos on youtube?

    Best ask a lawyer.

    Best ask a lawyer.

    lol

There are the usual reports out there of people getting caught after the fact all right.
You could edit the video to remove the view of the speedo if the aim is to show the view. Obviously if you are using the camera to back yourself up in the case of an accident, then you have to assume that the entire video could be used rather than select edits.

Yeah I suppose the only times when people get into trouble are when they are being (as the article says) "grossly irresponsible" - going 110 in a 100 zone is hardly going to warrant a manhunt..

I have one video which I'm uploading now where it is side mounted so you cannot see the speedo. The others, its mounted on my helmet, which is constantly moving, so it would be very hard to blur it out.

One thing I found in the settings on youtube is to set it to "Unlisted" so it won't show up in the search results, only if you have the link.

    Find an anonymous proxy.

Make a fake email address with this proxy.

Then create Youtube account & upload video through the proxy.

Even if you remove the speedo you're leaving yourself open to a dangerous driving charge.
