Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I'm Louise :) I've been reading boards for a while but never really post so hello :p
I'm doing chemistry, biology, accounting and French. Yay
This is sorta weird but I was wondering if anyone who gets the bus to school could tell me if on the ticket in the bit 'Travel between' is from your address or the place you get picked up.. It's on the side with the valid until date. Thanks :p

    Hi :)

In my school unfortunately they warned us that once we had picked our subjects we would most likely be stuck with them unless the class we wanted to move to had a space or if we could find somebody to switch with. If you were in my school you would have no chance of moving to Biology as all the biology classes had over 25 people in them!

Has everyone managed to get the Active Maths 4 higher level leaving cert book? All the book shops I've went to haven't stocked it yet!

Btw everyone, I'm Martina and I am 16 (I believe I never got around to introducing myself!). I just finished TY and I am looking forward to getting back to doing some work for a change - by the end of next week I'll probably be saying the exact opposite :D

Who should I talk to about changing subjects though?

You should ask your Year Head first (if you have one!) and then if he/she doesn't let you, you should try asking your Principal or Vice Principal! Good Luck. I hope you get to change. Also, it might help if you say something like "I need Biology for the course I want to do..." even if you just make it up or you could get your mum or dad to go into the school and ask for you! I hope it works out for you!

Actually do need it (or any science subject really) to do most computer/IT courses in college..cheers :)

iLikePiano: Where are you from actually? I stumbled across a book advert in Limerick that you were interested in. I was just wondering, are you from Limerick as well? :P

If you mention IT though, they may say Physics/Applied Maths would be more relevant and they also count for Science subjects so they may decide lump you into a class which has free spaces that you don't want. You'd be better mentioning a biology based course if it is specifically Biology you want.

WOAH! 315 posts already! A lil' bit about me since it was discussed earlier: I'm Conor and I started this thread way back in June!I love acting and musical theatre and I've been lucky enough to do some film and tv work too! Actually can't wait to get back to school tomorrow! I'm doing English, Irish, Maths, Business, French, Music and Geography all at higher level with the exception of maths. Dunno why, but I'm dreading Irish! But really can't wait to get back into the swing of things! Anyways I'm off to watch the rest of season 2 of "Glee" I'm a bit behind!

Double Irish would make me sick! Especially if I get my TY irish teacher cause she was just horrible...if I get the teacher I had up until JC then I won't mind as much... :D

I have Double Chemistry twice a week, and a single! Fun times, although I haven't had a Chemistry class yet so can't really talk, but I feel like I'll like it. :) Tomorrow I have Double Accounting, Double Irish and Double English. Fun fun fun!

Although I think I may love Accounting after just one class so s'not so bad really. :p

Guys, I think I like Fifth Year. Leaving Cert > Junior Cert.

We pick 4 then we can pick either study class, LCVP, Computers or App. Maths. There's a few more than me doing all three sciences, hopefully I'll be able for them :p

Had my first day of fifth year today! The entire start-of-year assembly consisted of our Year Head repeating the lines "the leaving cert doesnt start in 6th year...it starts now, NOW! So make yourself a study timetable blah blah blah..." And then my english teacher started our first class telling us about paper 1 and paper 2...she said that only one person has ever gotten an A1 in her honors class and that was this year...so I dont know whether thats a good thing or a bad thing!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 7,849 Mod ✭✭✭✭suitcasepink

Teachers are crazy for streaming classes...
One example, French: We're using your junior cert marks to determine which class is right for you.
Example 2, Maths: Anyone who would like to do higher level, please follow me this way! :L

Irish is kinda fecked up though, Im in the "lower honours class" so they say but that class is gonna turn into pass, they always do, but I refuse point blank to do pass Irish for 5th year, whatever about the middle of th year if Im not able, not now! And even though we have a good teacher, shes preggerz and leaving in October, and subs never work in our school tbh..

Tl;dr I want my summer back.

I couldn't do App. Maths in school as it clashed with the others. Yay, other nerds! :P

This is quite possibly the most insignificant post ever but we're doing pass Project Maths questions until someone finally gets round to printing a book for honours. So we got some for homework, and I was just there doing them, having a bit of fun because most of it isn't exactly rocket science. Then I stumbled across the very last question in the section. And I can't do it. I can't do a pass question on what has been described by many (not me, DON'T KILL ME) as a ridiculously dumbed down course. I'm meant to be good at maths. And now my mathematical confidence is in tatters.

    First world problems indeed...

    I'm back tomorrow...:(

Really just want to get my locker, timetable and classes sorted at this stage. Don't know if I'll get it all sorted tomorrow though, because my class tutor is a legend but he's very unorganised...

You've 2 years to be able to do that one question! Plenty of time! :P Plus, you're only after starting the LC course (and this section). It'll all be fine! :)

As a matter of interest, do YOU think that the project maths course is significantly easier than the old course? Have you seen the new course...cause you did the old course, right? or is that just rumours about project maths being really simple?

So, there were often times my friends in pass asked me for help and I was stumped! In less than 2 years time I promise you'll be here posting about your A1 in HL maths! :pac:

    Is this aimed at me?!

I haven't seen much of the new course (except I know the new course books are all colourful compared to ours. :pac:) so I can't really have a proper opinion on it.

I do however believe that the changes are for the better, but I highly doubt the course is any easier than ours, it's just different. Some bits of our course were cut, like vectors - and that was a beautiful section.

The bonus points coming in the same year as the new course is unfair though. They should have either kept the old course and brought in the bonus points or brought the new course and kept the old points.

I'll say again though that I know very little about the content of the new course, so I hope no one attacks me! :P

Yeah, it was aimed at you :) Thanks for the reply! I agree with the whole extra points thing btw...even though I amn't exactly "upset" over getting the extra but still, it really doesn't make sense getting the extra points right after they bring out a new course :D
