I think either method works as long as you tackle the question and demonstrate that you know what you're talking about and not just spitting out a sample answer.

Poem by Poem but in the answer try and lay them out so two similar themes are together. Reads well when you can say something like :" The attitude shown by Dickinson in this poem is comparable to that in ...... "
