Because I got 480 in the mocks and all my family & friends are just presuming I'm gonna get that! Such pressure! :( And to make it worse my stepmum keeps saying I'm going to get 555 (which I am NOT) and that she'll buy me a car and all this crap.
It's never going to happent and I'm just under so much pressure and I know I wont meet their expectations! Hate this pressure it really gets me down :(

Just put them out of your mind for this month. Do your best etc :) As long as you get what you want, thats all that matters right?

Fairplay for getting over 400 in the mocks!

I am in the same boat LittleMissLost. I know I should have started much earlier and I ain't even studying now (seem to have no motivation). Just remember at the end of the day the whole point of the lc is that you get into the course you want. In 10 years (sorry to say it but people at not gonna ask about your results).

The other day my brother was going back to England and he had a chat about the lc ..... Twas a very serious one and we never really have serious chats.... He was just don't stress/panic at the end of the day it. Is only the leaving cert. Now while I have ALOT of pressure coming from my parents I know that at the end of the day ass long as I am happy with what I get thats all that matters.

Expectations are alot of pressure and alot of the time they can send you in the opposite direction.... That's what happened to me.

I know that if your happy then your parents will be happy so just do the best for you! And it's never to late you can get alot done and I am sure that you have alot in your brain from your pres just try triggers to get it out!

    Hope this helped

Hoping to do Psychology in Galway next year, will need at least 525. I've always been a crammer and the despite countless promises to myself this year, we're now 3 days out and I find myself in an eerily familiar situation :(

As well being a world class procrastinator(really hate that word), I'm also a massive boxing fan. I'm trying to hype myself up into a mind-state where I'm heading into the 12th round, behind on all the judges cards, and in need of a knockout, lol. Just gotta lay it all on the line at this stage, go hell for leather. It's doable :)

I have one pass subject(Maths) and one bastard child subject (French) so I pretty much need A's in everything else - it's gonna be fun...

I feel the same- so angry with myself, it's not as if I was doing much else. It would've been so easy to have been doing bits and pieces a few weeks or months back and be sorted by this stage. It's really not worth the stress right now.

I'm just going to do all I can over the next few days. Panic is motivating me a bit atm, so will hopefully do half-decently in a couple of subjects and pass the rest.

Bit in bold is precisely how I feel- I've never done anything but cramming, but always told myself that once it mattered (i.e now!) things would be different.

Once a crammer, always a crammer.

    Hey guys!

I got 425 in my mocks without too much hassle, although I did study hard for it 2 weeks before!

I want to get 530 in the real exams, even though I haven't worked to my potential I've put in a huge effort these past few weeks!

    Achievable? Any tips?

    Thanks!:p

I think it's definitely achievable if you've been working as hard as you say you have been! :) Good luck!

I got 480 in the mocks with just night before study and have done nothing really since then. Am looking for 520.. Achievable? Tips?!

Well I kind of stopped working in April but by the end of May got really back into it, although I do find it difficult to motivate myself of late :p

Yes definitely! You know more than you think, just keep focused for the next few days. Once you've revised it again, it'll all come rushing back! (In my case, I've only revised it once so it might be difficult to recall it all in the exam??)

You must be quite the bright spark getting 480 in the mocks by just studying the night before? :p

    Best of luck! :)

I'm actually in awe of people like you who can motivate themselves to study. I barely even did my homework during the year (shame on me, I know!) regreting it now big time! You'll get the 530 I'd say :D

I'm sure you'll do great though. anything over 400 in the mocks is brill :) I'm convinced my Irish and Home Ec mock papers were marked easy though

    REALLY want 520..... agh I can't get motivated!!! :(

Whats the general level of expectancy between mock results and actual ones?

I got 450 in the mocks, and need 480+

There is nothing worth doing at 5.30. Absolutely nothing. I will never study at 5.30 :p

Grand, so that style of studying doesn't suit you.

I did very little work throughout fifth and sixth year myself. No long-term study, I went to school alright but I rarely did any homework. I started studying about a week before the exams, and during the exams I didn't do any late night studying, but every morning I got up around four or five to study for the exams that day. I got 515 points, which isn't exactly amazing, but not bad considering I hadn't worked all along.

Similarly throughout college - I went to most of my lectures, did the minimum work possible as I went along, and then always got up really early on exam mornings. Got a first class honours degree.

See the way my mind works is that I can retain lots of short term information, but I'm not so good at the long term stuff. The Leaving Cert is largely an exercise in memory. So if I'd skimmed over something the morning of an exam, I'd remember it in detail in the exam itself. I'm good at doing well in exams, but obviously if I'd had to do the same exams a few weeks later without studying again for them, I'd have forgotten most of it. It's not ideal, but it's the way my brain works.

Just trying to explain that, yes it may be pointless for you to get up at 5.30 the morning of an exam, but that doesn't mean it's pointless for everyone else! :)
Thank you :) hopefully the exams will go ok.. I seriously don't know what I'll do if I get under 500.. :(

You'll be fine if you do. Sure isn't the average result only around 300 points anyways? Or even less? So you'd still be well above average! I'm sure plenty of people have said this to you already, but the Leaving Cert will be SO irrelevant to you in a few years. If there's a particular career path you want to follow, you will always find a way of doing it. Sure, getting high points in the Leaving Cert might make things a bit easier, but even if you don't get the points you need you'll find another way if you want it badly enough. Just try and keep some perspective - it's not life or death, you can only do your best in each exam. And if you want to do well, it's a lot easier to do it for yourself - ignore what friends or family members are expecting of you. Easier said than done, I know! :)

In my experience there's not a whole lot of correlation. You'll generally do better in the real thing, simply because you'll have a lot more study done. However the mocks were different papers marked by different examiners. The exam paper for each subject might suit you on the day whereas the mock paper didn't - or vice versa. Best thing is to forget about your mocks results now, and just focus on doing your best in each paper on the day.
