Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Outlook messages dissapearing

Ok I am not very computer savy so I'll do my best to explain.

I got a new laptop during the week with MS Office Home and business 2010.
On my old pc I have the MS Works jobbie.

I have my company email set up in Outlook on both, think it is POP3 on my 'old' pc in outlook express and by default 'imap' on the new laptop.

When I recieve an email it does not always arrive on my laptop, and if it does, and I read it on the laptop, it would still come up as a new email on my 'old' pc, and now the thing that annoys me most, if I read the same message on my old pc it disappears from the laptop.

How do I sort it out that the emails stay on my laptop, I would even sacrifice them arriving on the pc.

and is there a way for me not to loose the old emails (on the pc)as there is some information on that I still need.

Hope this makes sense for someone who can help me with this problem.

On the pc that is using pop3 you need to go to the mail account settings and tick the option to 'leave a copy of the mail on server'.
Usually in Servers tab under advanced.

I did that now, thank you, lets hope this works.

Is there any way I can sync the two mailboxes so that I have all the old emails from the pc on to my new laptop? That way I could close of the old outlook completely

You may be able to copy the .pst file from the old computer to the new one and from the file menu in Outlook choose import and point it to the file you have copied over. A pst file contains all Outlook data - incl mails, contacts etc.
I am not 100% if this will work, I think it might depend on which version of Outlook is on the old pc.
Might be advisable to make a backup of your existing pst file on the new pc beforehand.
    Good luck

There is a way of copying all of your old mails just a couple of points though.

You mentioned you have IMAP on the new one and POP on the old one.
You should talk to whoever is in charge of your company emails to find out what kind of storage you have on your account.

Lots of Small Businesses use hosting packages with small storage allowances which can fill up and stop you from receiving messages, if you dont have a lot of storage POP3 will work better as it will not keep a copy of the message on the server by default (Although you changed this on advice of the post above). I usually check it to delete after 28 days to make sure the server is kept relatively clear.

IMAP is usually better suited when there is lots of space and you want to have your mail synced between a few computers, so for example you get a mail on your laptop and reply to it, if your desktop PC had the IMAP account your reply would be in the Sent folder of that computer too.

If you are using "Outlook Express" on your old one there will be no .pst file and instead will use .dbx files.

Let me know what versions of Outlook / Outlook Express you have on each under help click on "About ..." to display this info, Also list the Operating System of Each i.e. Windows XP / Windows 7.
