Care to volunteer the name and location of your premises as an example of a business which doesn't "lower the tone" then?

And have yer man from the yellow shop know where I am?!?

    I don't think so!! :p:p

Interesting idea. Can you give us some idea what these standards should cover? Is it external colour, or type of merchandise, or what?

Frankly, Galway and indeed most of Ireland is grubby, by my standards. IMHO it's actually part of the character.

Agree with you about the music from the yellow shop though ...

No I think its more the grubbyness and dirt that I don't like personally, more so than what colour a shop front is or what merchandise they stock.

Most of Ireland is grubby by my standards also but I don't consider it part of the character!!* Most of the time it's lazyiness (or maybe lack of money nowadays)

    *Exception: Houghs pub in Banager!

I've walked by his shop a few times when he has been blasting out music onto the street and he was drowning out the musicians that were playing on shop street, so he kinda takes from the character a bit when he does that.

Thanks God, there are people out there who can see there is something wrong and I am glad its not the the kind of people like most who posted in this thread who decide how this town looks like. It would be cheap Las Vegas nightmare.

I suppose this would be a bit of an alien concept in Ireland, but has anyone heard of a "facade committee"? Numerous European cities have them. Their members, who are acknowledged experts in their fields - architecture, design, and so on - are generally elected or appointed by the city council and must be satisfied that the facade of a building fits in well with its surroundings before approval for a new building or significant alterations to the appearance of an existing one is given.:)

It might work in Ireland, but I fear the potential for brown envelopes and other modes of mutual backscratching is rather great.

and Nurses uniforms that any real nurse would catch puenomia in.

I don't mean to undermine your argument, infact, I don't have much of an opinion on this, so more power to ya, but that sentence is the funniest thing I've read on the Internet in quite a while, meant that way or not.

What a useless thread, get with the times Fossil. I'd sooner an adult shop there employing people than another person on social welfare. Please cry about something useful, thanks.

Ahem, the thread had been forgotten for a week until you brought it up again.
Decided to get a bit more advertising I take it?

I agree. Please let this thread die gracefully :pac:

I'm sick of shooting things around the back of the shed.

Love the way a thread about the sex shop degenerates into pictures of Kenneth Williams. We're so Irish! ;)

I have never once noticed this shop.

    Honestly, nobody lives a flying...

Any business that can provide employment and contribute to the economy is welcome in my book.

In my opinion, if people want to get annoyed about something they should pick a worthy cause instead of being such useless fools.

Yes I do care about it, I would like tourists to country and my children to walk down the jewel of Galway city without seeing shops that sell mechanical sex devices, hard core pornographic audio and visual and Nurses uniforms that any real nurse would catch puenomia in.

My symphaty about your immaculate conceptions seeing this kind of thing but do you realy think that tourists should have to search down our back streets looking for these shops.
