I agree, this makes town look cheap and tacky. Shame

    Boo Hoo.

You'd swear we were living in the eighteenth century.
I'm sure the little tourists and visitors know what a sex shop is and one shop on the main street isn't going to suddenly implode the whole tourist industry of a city.
I say fair play to them for opening and taking the risk in setting up a business. I suppose criticism from goody two shoes is inevitable for a shop of that nature but I don't think it deserves a thread.

There is a wider issue here. Galway relies heavily on tourism. If it continues along its current level of tackiness it could end up like Bundorran.

    That's true,it is important.
However, one as I said, one shop isn't the end of the world. However,a sea side town like Bundoran is a different kettle of fish. Tourism is the only thing there, the population is minimal. All of those towns are like that,Blackpool,Brighton etc.
Galway is still an old fashioned town with a strong cultural and traditional presence. It would have to take a hell of a lot of sex shops to change that.

It's not about beeing prudish (is that the word?) or not! Cmon, do you think this is the sign of "modern times" to have a sex shop on main street? It's about good or bad taste. I've seen like beautiful place can be ruined by cheap "Las Vegas" like style in place called Bundoran. Lovely beach and everything and nightmare little ugly town.

Of course it's the sign of modern times. It's a shop selling sex toys and other sexual paraphernalia. Oh the horrors, not in my town.

In fairness I was only thinking out loud about a new business. How ever if I was to start one, I would have respect for the city of Galway with my choice and location of business.

Have you never noticed that awful smell that you that is often on Shop Street? I'd say that is worse than a sex shop.

    Fair enough,that's an opinion.
Are you against it being in Galway in general or is it just that it's shop street?

I've pinned down that smell as eminating from McDonalds, you get it round the back street of it too. Probably the food.

I agree with the OP, a sex shop is tacky and brings down the look of the street, I also find it hilarious that any objection to this is seen as being a prude. It's not about morals, it's about maintaining the attraction to Galway as a tourist destination.

Just that it's shop street, but i am not fan of sex shops anyway. I just think plastic penises and stuff like that are for sad people.

To my absolute horror today when walking down Shop street I saw that an adult shop had opened up. Shop street is the jewel of Galway city and I am extremely disappointed that the city council have allowed this to happen. Also I saw that in my opinion a few very tacky looking shops have opened up in shop street. Surely the integrity of this street should be maintained?

I take it you are not an adult.

lol as much as you want. :D I just think most of you just dont get it and you havent been to really well maintained towns where history and general appearance is keept in order and people think those towns are beautifull but dont understand why ( and they are because they dont allow there things like that to happen).

Yes I do care about it, I would like tourists to country and my children to walk down the jewel of Galway city without seeing shops that sell mechanical sex devices, hard core pornographic audio and visual and Nurses uniforms that any real nurse would catch puenomia in.

Ha Ha Ha This is hilarious, Im sure anyone coming here from a foreign country has these shops anyway, You want to protect children from sex, Well then dont ever bring your child to church because thats were the real depraved stuff goes down.

    I have been thank you.
But we aren't talking about some narrow street built in the 17th century that we might find in Bavarian country. If it's about physical appearance shouldn't the likes of Meteor be given out about too?

Tourists are been almost described as innocent and need to be protected judging by this thread. They aren't going to be shocked and tell their friends not to come here because of the existence of a sex shop on the main street.

People honesty think a first floor sex will effect tourism? Cop the hell on! Hotels will be empty in galway because of the sex shop

The integrity of the street? Isn't there an AIB on the street already?

Is that like a CD full of " Oh yaa, F^ me in the ass" kinda thing:D

Anyway, I don't see a problem with it as it's in an upstairs location. Once they don't have anything to 'raunchy' on a ground floor window or flyers :D:D

Sure hasn't every decent sized city in Ireland have them? idk..
