GALWAY BOARDS BEERS AND SEX SHOP VISIT!!!!

Wrong order! Sex shop visit first, then beers.

Otherwise feck knows what people will buy, hammered, thinking it's hilarious. :D

has anyone been in the shop? anything good for sale in it? do they sell sex in the shop or just sex toys? my local knocking shop has shut due to the a few of the workers opting to retire and take their social welfare pensions

    Wouldn't that be the point?

I mean I don't think pubs would appreciate us bringing inflatable sheep and vibrators with us.

Was in there last week looking for stuff for my cousins hen night. They have a relatively small collection but it's the usual toys and funny willies and boobs. Myself and my sister had a good 'ol giggle in there :p

2: How much is the sex?

That's why they can't be called sex shops - it breaches the trades description act !

So, you have to have a boyfriend to have sex? Yes- this is really emancipated. :pac:

And anyhow... Look at Amsterdam... Thats packed with tourists the whole year round, sure the place is crawling with sex shops, red light districts, peep shows, hookers, and it still draws the tourists in for other reasons.

Im sure they would love to hear how the OP is going on about 1 measly shop above another business.

If you were there you should know its not on the main street or even city center..

Back around 2004 when I was in GMIT such a shop opened in Bohermore

Well the residents went crazy
Pensioners sitting outside to intimidate customers away

    Is that shop still around?

Its a craft shop now. Think the sex crowd moved to Abbeygate St.

What makes Ann Summers more "high class" than any of the other sex shops?Branding?
Personally,I'd rather encounter a sex shop while I stroll down Grafton St than being heckled by the many junkies that seem to have made the street home. The reason why a sex shop hasn't popped up on Grafton St yet is probably due to the rent, not Dublin City Council trying to maintain the street's integrity.

Have you been in an Ann Summers and a run of the mill sex shop? They're completely different, AS sells mostly underwear with a bit of lace most the same as Pennys sell, costumes nothing that wouldn't look so out of place in a joke shop and vibrators which in the line of sex toys are really mild along with the porn, everything is very soft. Regular sex shops do sell more hardcore items which make up most of the shop AS sells mostly clothes not bondage equipment and butt plugs.

I hate to see people talking about sex shops like they're filthy, but the main street is not the place for it because of the stigma it should be in a more secluded area I'm sure that's what Irish customers prefer partly because of the stigma but for the fact is that sex is rather private thing people prefer to be discreet about.

I wonder if we could arrange a deal for Boardies in exchange for the free publicity. So what would you buy ?. You know that you are amongst friends & we won't tell :D

Its painted bright pink!! how can you not notice it?

Good business sense there, makes sense for a trader to be sure to get noticed. :D

As soon as I saw this thread I thought:

    Talk to Joe, on 1850 715 105.

Exactly. The country is in a dire mess so let's take up an hour of prime air time discussing a first floor shop that has nothing on display to the passing public & can only cause offence if you choose to be offended.

The shop owner should get two lads to dress as priests & handcuff themselves outside - great publicity.

More like 50 years ago in cities like Paris, London, Berlin etc etc.

Yes I do care about it, I would like tourists to country and my children to walk down the jewel of Galway city without seeing shops that sell mechanical sex devices, hard core pornographic audio and visual and Nurses uniforms that any real nurse would catch puenomia in.

Yet you consider Ann Summers a "high class establishment"?

Ann summers is a high class establishment. Shop street is Galways main shopping thorough fair.It should be high class and not ruined by bright pink adult shops. Surely the city council could do something about, The new business would have to pay rates etc. This is my opinion.

I love how you're saying that the sex shop is ruining the street and calling a shop that sells dildos a high class establishment :L

  • Registered Users Posts: 810 ✭✭✭Laisurg

Look ten years down the road and imagine what shop street will be like given the current calibre of shops opening. Moore street in Dublin will be comparable. With head shops, hair extensions in every second door.

Do you by any chance listen to the joe duffy show?

  • Registered Users Posts: 810 ✭✭✭Laisurg

Ann Somers (sp?) does contain tasteful lingerie and products, unlike most sex shops which can contain rather disturbing gear, like sinister looking black leather gear/whips, etc.

By tasteful lingerie and products do you mean the crotchless knickers and dildos?

Lads, this is clearly a shill thread to generate publicity for this shop..........relax!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

Went looking for this place this morning - it's not at all obvious that it's a porn establishment, and it's not very visible at all, at all.

I'd be inclined to agree with skelliser, if the OP weren't doing such a terrible job.

Apart from the tacky pink facade, i'm not bothered by it. It'll be closed in a few months anyway, there's no way they'll make enough to cover the high rents on shop street and the ridiculous city rates.
