So the last few days my newfie has been fairly lethargic and not her normal self was not sure what was wrong with her. Was in the garden this morning and was watching her go around the garden she went to yawn and could only really get her mouth open about a quarter of the way. She hasn't been able to mess around with the other dog because of it I think and she is eating but she takes longer than normal. She'll be going to the vet tomorrow morning just wondering what other people think first.

My only thought is, it could be a number of things but the only person qualified to diagnose the dog is the vet. Let us know how she gets on.

Is the yawn that you seen the only reason you think she has a sore jaw or is her jaw tender to touch? What age is she and is she neutered? If she isin't neutered when was her last season?
A sore jaw should not result in lethargy (unless it's causing her to stop drinking water or eating) unless maybe there's an infection there.

Have a read of this, http://www.briarhillvets.ie/html/pdf/Factsheets/Dog/24_265517.pdf and if you think she has these symptoms don't wait until tomorrow to bring her to a vet, ring your vet asap as if it's closed pyo she really needs to be straight into a vets and on a drip.

Luckily Zapperzy she was neutered and those symptoms don't apply. We brought her to the vet and he was manipulating her jaw and could not see anything obvious with it and just noticed that she was in pain and could not open in properly. She has been put on some medicine to see if that would make a difference and so far she has improved and is returning to more of her old self. Thanks for your help.

My first thought was lockjaw (tetanus.) Very glad she's been seen by the vet and is beginning to feel better.
