For those of us running iOS5 GM, what happens on Wednesday night/Thursday? Obviously there'll be a new ITunes that we'll have to upgrade to (as the new one is now saying "this version of iTunes will soon expire") - but will a newer OS be found when checking for updates (i.e. the official release of iOS5)??

Logically, it should be the same build.

Can I change the tone that tells me someone posted something in facebook or the rst of the alerts I would like different tones for different apps.

Any chance this can be done?

Probably around 5pm or 6pm I'd say. The sooner the better. Can we expect an update to OSX tonight?

Updated my 4 to iOS5 this evening and have been spending time getting used to it.

For whatever reason, I can't seem to get Twitter or Facebook notifications working despite having them turned on in the Notification centre. Anyone have any ideas ?

Sorry if this was discussed already but Im happy with how Ive set up my gmail across the iPhone and Mac.

I also have the iPhone and web based google calendar synced together and Im happy with that too.

Will iCloud cause hassle with that setup?

No it won't, stick with google though.
Although your notes won't sync over iOS devices, unless you have an @me account. still confused about that myself.
Contacts, calender, reminders and bookmarks and photos will sync across ios devices.

Hopefully I can choose then to just sync photos and contacts between my mac and my iPhone. I don't have any other apple devices. Its hardly an all or nothing thing?

No, you can choose what you want to sync with iCloud.

It likely won't go live this side of the Atlantic untill around 6pm this evening.

iOS5 will not be out until later today, probably sometime after 5pm Irish time. To update to it when it is available, plug your iPhone in to the computer and open iTunes if you haven't already got it open. Click on the iPhone in iTunes and on the main page that comes up, there's a button to click that will check for updates. Do that if iTunes doesn't automatically tell you the update for the iPhone is there.

Cheers guys. Ill keep an eye on it later this evening so.

Whats the best way about getting IOS5 with a jailbroken phone? Backup and restore?

    Thanks

You can't update and keep the Jailbreak. 5.0 hasn't been cracked yet as far as I know.

The update to ios5 ( like any previous apple update ) will remove your JB and anything cydia related. Backup /restore will preserve the rest.

Edit: there is a tethered only JB available AFAIK via redsnow. Wont be long for the untethered i reckon

Anyone know if its possible to disable the message that pops up when you send an email with an empty subject line. Its an annoying additional feature.

Otherwise I really like the new notifications. Interesting to see how this impacts battery life

Have you been able to get/download ios 5 in Ireland?

There's a thread titled "iOS 5 now" detailing how to get it early, but it involves a restore. Only a few hours left now so you'd be as well waiting.

    Quick question:

Im on iOS5 GM, and will probably like to update to the official release when its out (i know they are essentially the same, just like to be on the proper release). I would also like to set my phone up from new to help clean out any crap that may have built up on the phone. I have iCloud set up to sync everything it can (contacts, caelndar, notes etc) so if I select 'set up as new' and not 'Backup from iCloud' am I still able to sync just the data like contacts etc back from iCloud to my phone? I know whats included and what isnt with this method, my music and apps will sync from my pc anyway.

Can iCloud do this or is the only way to backup from iCloud to do a full backup/restore?

    Hope that makes sense.

This is completely unnecessary. The GM almost certainly is the "proper" release. The only difference is you got it early. And iOS isn't Windows so crap build-up isn't a problem. Even if it was a problem, you just did a restore to install the GM, so no need to do another one. Just delete any apps you don't want.

Well, it's finally live - iOS 5 is up on iTunes.

Someone on the other thread has confirmed the GM is indeed the final version since the update went live.

Bit gutted that it is the same build as the GM version to be honest. I have been running the GM version on my iPad 2 & iPhone 4 for the last week and while it appears to be fine on the iPad 2, I am not really happy with it on the iPhone 4.

Nothing major wrong, just seems to lose the wifi connection in my house a little bit which never happened. My phone coverage seems to be a bit poor in the last week and I am struggling to get 3G an awful lot. Some apps are crashing and when i try use the search function on the iphone for a contact or a message/email its just blank, nothing coming up at all.

Finding the home button is unresponsive at times too since i installed the GM version. So with those and some other small issues in mind, I was kind of hoping that with developer feedback etc over the last few weeks that the version released today would have ironed out some bugs. A little worried now that its the same build, and also that others dont seem to be having the same issues That i am having so they are not happening across the board.

    Disaster!!!

Trying to update to iOS 5 but after several failed attempts i'm getting error code 3200 any ideas??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

Everyone on the iO5 thread seems to be getting that error too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,341 ✭✭✭brophs

Not me. I got it to start with but then I restarted my phone and disabled my firewall on my pc (as that seems to be the root cause of a lot of update issues) and I'm playing around with it as we speak.

There were 4 security updates within windows 7 I had to install before that message went away, the updates only came in after I installed itunes 10.5

Mine seems to have updated, I think, but its just showing Restoring Apps now and not doing anything else. Not sure what to do. Let it run? Been that way now for about 40 mins

I love the new features of iOS5 but can't seem to find the IMessage?! Sorry if this is staring at me, but I can't see it anywhere! I know its supposed to be in my normal messages app but I don't see the features?

iMessage is built into the normal message app.. When your txting someone with and iphone it will have the send button in blue and "imessage" will be in the place where you write the txt. For all other users it just will say "message" and the the send button will be green. :)

question? why did they split the video from the ipod (now music ) app???

i LOVED the ipod app as it was :(

also double clicking to bring up the camera lock screen wtf?

Slight correction, iMessage works when texting any iPhone user who is running iOS 5.

Was texting three people who had iphones but this wasn't happening? Theres a possibility none of them were on wifi though is that the reason perhaps?

I have notifications all set up but get no updates on lock screen.

Also, lock screen just shows battery display despite having a photo set.

    Any ideas?

Is it just showing the battery because you have it charging? Try plug it out

Anyone else having problems with the app store? Trying to download apps, the app icon appears but seems to be stuck on waiting.
