    7 mile recovery run tonight. Not exciting about it but at least news talk kept me entertained.

    Thursday
    11 mile run to work this morning. Usual course etc.
    This time it was a crap run, legs were dead and didnt want to do this at all. Not sure were they just a bit tired after last few runs, but they felt terrible.

    If anyone saw me this morning, they should of just put me down, as was that bad!

    Anyhow 11 miles in 1:40:16 and pace was 9:07. Felt alot harder and worse than the time suggests!!!

    No more runs now till Sunday race. Determine not to over do things this time!!

    eco 20 mile race

    Preparation for this has been a lack of sleep over last 3 nights with little one sick.

    Woke up at 5 as little one still unwell. Still managed to be late to collect racoon queen. Got out to east point at 815 and signed up.

    Was not feeling the love for this race but off we went. Pace was 7:45 for first 5 miles, this was not the plan.

    Had a quick pit stop which cost me a min.
    Made up the time but was feeling tired at 10 miles @ 1:19:40.

    Next 5 miles pace was 8:05.

    The last five I struggled and pace dropped to 8:18. Right knee caused some issues and right hip was sore.

    Finish time was 2:47:25. A bit on the low side but did do 20 last weekend too.

    Might have a shot at 3:40 in Dublin? Is that a reasonable target?

    I'd say give it a go AR.
    McMillan suggests 3:44 but if you were feeling anyways ok by the end of Sunday's run you should perform better in a bigger field, nicer/more scenic course with what should hopefully be much less windy conditions and all after a good taper.
    If things were to go wrong it will probably only be in the final couple of miles and you won't be too far off 3:45 at that stage at worst, so not a lot to lose.
    All in all 3:40 sounds like a good target!

    I wasnt really in the mood for this race due to lack of sleep and 20 mile the week before!! Went off way too fast but needed to get that out of my system. Will start behind 3:45 pacers and run my own race on how i feel but i think 3:40 is realistic. last big run this weekend.

    You ran well i see.

    12 miles today to work. Not too bad. Took it easy enough but felt a small pain in my achilles also. Think after this weekend 17 mile run i ease up a bit so the niggles might clear up.

    I reckon just tweaking the strategy so that you don't go out too fast will make a massive difference to how you feel at mile 20. Going out with the 3:45 pacers sounds like a really good idea, and then pushing on from Montrose/RTE if you're feeling good seems like the best bet.

    I went off too fast myself and that's the reason it turned into a 10 mile race rather than a 15 mile race!:o

    Good advice there from Krusty about kicking on towards the end of DCM but perhaps it'd be worth having this plan in mind from Foster's Ave to take advantage of the downhill and the extra mile or two. Taking 5mins out of the course from RTE through to the finish might be cutting it a little fine imho.

    I find with me though, no matter what pace i run at I will be tired at 20 miler, ie kicking on could be a problem. Obviously different tireness as if i did 8 min mile i be in real trouble at 20 :)

    I will have to wait and see on the day how i feel, what i find odd is i did 10 miler in the park in 75:59 and after 10 miles on Sunday in 81 mins i felt worst on a easier course, but then again not as fresh right now with 2 20 milers in two weekends and lack of sleep due to little one!!

    I had 3 times in my mind, 3:35, 3:40, & 3:45. Think i go for 3:40 if i feel right.

    Ment to run 10 miles but time was against me. So did a total of 5.5 miles as warm up and warm down.
    Then did 4x1000 with 2:30 rest. Two of these with the wind and 2 against the wind.

    1 -> 4:26
    2 -> 4:08
    3 -> 4:18
    4 -> 3:56

    Hard doing these on your own for pace.

    Good session and avoided the rain.

    Total miles 8.

    Broke the 1000 mile mark :)

    Congrats on the 1000.
    I reckon you're good for 3:40 at the end of the month, at the end of the month :eek:
    I'll be trying for more or less the same. Aiming for 8:1X pace means you'll come home in 3:3X. Nice and convenient.

    Last big lsr before the marathon. Ment to do 17 but did 16 as needed to get home. First two miles were 9:36 and then the pace dropped to 8:45 average. This run was very easy and felt no hassle at all from it.

    Session was 8 miles with 5x600 with 1:30 rest between.

    Did 3 miles warm up @ 27:20 and 3.2 miles warm down @28:20.

    All the 600m were between 2:20-2:30.

    Achilles is sore this morning so no more vo2 max work till after marathon. Constantly picking little niggles up, hit the table last night with my toes when walking barefoot in the kitchen :mad:

    My middle toe was still sore last night so i decided to have a look at it. It is black. But can move it so must be ok. Anyhow middle toe cant be that important for running?

    Switched my weekend lsr to today as cant do it on sat. So 12 miles to work in 1:47:45 @ 9:03 pace. My achilles is a bit sore so wont run tomorrow. Nice run in and my last run to work for awhile. It has been fun :)

    Monday

    Hadnt run since Wednesday due to my achilles tendon being sore. So went out tonight with the racing flats and did 7 miles in 58:32 @ 8.22 pace.

    Think wearing the racing flats was a mistake as achilles was in bits after it. Applied Diclac and heat to the achilles.

    I need this to clear up for the marathon or i am in serious trouble for marathon.

    Will wear my normal runners for the rest of the runs till marathon.

    Would it be a mistake now to wear racing flats for the marathon? I did 20 miles race in them but my achilles is now a major concern.

    Any advice be great, thanks

    Wednesday

    I think i am starting to sound like a big girl with all my moaning, but i have a head cold now!! Taking loads of Uniflu to sort me out.

    Today was a 5 mile run without my watch. The run became a bit like a hurdle race over 5 miles as the sand bags were getting put down on Clontarf sea front. Sea was pretty rough with the worst to come still? Very high also.

    No time for the 5 miles but no real pain in the achilles after i switched back to my normal runners. Nice run out there though!

    Was the achilles bothering you after the 20 mile race? Or when did it start bothering you?

    Would be wary about running in them in DCM if its still at you.

    HI;

    Meant to say no real pain after switching back to the non flats today.

    I was grand after the 20 miler, think it happened last Monday week ago. I did 3 miles warm up and then started a session of 5x600's. I was wearing flats for this session.

    During the second one i felt something but sure kept going. During the warm down on way home i was limping with it.

    2 days later i ran to work in normal runners and from that evening onwards it was sore, so i rested till Monday just gone.

    Here is the interesting thing, I wear orthotics in my non flat runners but the guy in amphibian king said i had enough support in the flats, so no need for the orthotics unless issues arise. Is this an issue :)

    On Monday i applied heat and 3 times a day i apply diclac to it and seems to be helping.

    So for the rest of the taper i will wear my normal runners but what should i do for the marathon?

    Thanks

    I would ask myself 2 questions

    Which are more likely to get me through 26 miles?

    Are racing flats likely to provide you with that much an advantage that it's worth taking the risk?

    I think only you know the answer to the above regarding how you feel but I know which option I would be going with ;)

    I know what u mean Pete!! But i haven't raced in my normal runners this year but the obvious answer is in front of me :) I am great in telling other people what to do and it is common sense, but as for me, less said the better:mad:

    Normal runners look the answer!
