    With an illustrious career spanning 50 years and a musical CV that reads like a history of 20th century music, Dutch guitar player Jan Akkerman brings his spelling-binding show of cross-genre guitar wizardry to Whelan’s Of Wexford St on Tuesday 7th June. Akkerman has worked with a dazzling array of stellar musicians such as BB King, Charlie Byrd, Cozy Powell, Claus Ogerman and Ice-T among many others and that’s not to mention being a former member of internationally acclaimed bands Brainbox and Focus. He has also made more than a dozen solo records that demonstrate his versatile playing that is free from boundaries or limitations. Whether it’s ‘Tabernakel’ (1973), the famous guitar-in-bed album ‘Jan Akkerman’ (1977) or his most recent studio outing ‘CU’ (2003), he explores and combines elements of rock, jazz, blues, classical or modern dance music all punctuated by Akkerman’s unique signature playing


    As an authentic and gifted improviser, seeing Jan Akkerman live in concert is always a refreshing, fascinating and never-to-be-repeated experience.
