Condenser dryer - water pump

Doing a little bit of work on a condenser dryer I picked up.

Just wondering if the water pump, that pumps the condensed water up to the reservoir drawer, is it supposed to run continually while the machine is running?

It's running continually, I thought initially the float switch might have triggered the pump, but it seems that switch is used to trigger the red warning light (to empty the drawer) and turn off the heating coils (which it does).

EDIT: I didn't realise there was an Appliances forum, can a mod please move it there, I can't seem to delete this one. Thanks.
