On INTEREST RATES - Depressingly, i read in the papers due to the recent Catalonia trouble among other things, the EU got a shock last week with the temporary drop of the euro and have now said a previous rate increase that was rumored on the cards for early 2018 will be delayed to late 2018 or even early 2019, thus affecting any chances of an interest rate boost for savers so I've decided today to pull out €30+k to turn into a prize bond and add to my already €170+k bonds bringing me North of €200,000 in prize bonds (I've "won" €1400 since 2016, a very poor show) we shall see if I can have any luck at all with them or will it just be more misery checking every Friday and reading "sorry, you have no winners", I haven't won a sausage in 11 weeks now and it's getting depressing. Anyway I'll keep readers posted and as usual l will do the rosary in valentines and pray for all bond holders to win. I'll keep the €200,000+ in prize bonds till 2019, surely rates have to up by then?

Ha ha, very funny. Actually I was having a nana nap. Back at work this week after 7 1/2 months following a knee surgery and I’m knackered. So such luck, no win for us today - the retirement fund is sadly lacking so back to work again next week.

I’ll build a shelter tomorrow- I’m too tired tonight.

There was no interest rate increase on the cards for early 2018. The ECB base rate might increase from zero to 0.25% late in 2018 according to the forecasts I read and might hit 0.75% by some time in 2020. That does not mean that financial institutions will offer better rates to savers in a market where they are snowed under with deposits. The only good news for savers is that DIRT currently at 39% will continue to reduce by 2% in each of the next three Budgets until it is at 33%.

There was no interest rate increase on the cards for early 2018. According to the financial times report from
March 3rd 2017 at 9:16 by Mehreen khan the headline reads and I quote.... "Markets eye euro zone rate rise in early 2018" this is just one of many articles I got my information from predicting a possible rate rise next January or feb. I also read in the indo last week that this rate rise could be put on ice due to the problem with Catalonia.l just go by what I read in the finance sections of newspapers . :)

Yes but time invested is no guarantee of a win, you much disclose HOW MUCH you have in bonds so people on here can gauge properly how lucky/unlucky you have been, thats why we are on here! for example I have €200,000 in bonds since 2016 and have won a very unimpressive €1400 but it doesn't stop me fantasising about about winning the €50k each week, thats my dream. its how much you have that makes winning more probable.

Ok I have E5,000 worth of bonds

    Thanks for that.
That's a pretty low amount, I had €10,000 in bonds a few years ago (when the chances were much better of winning ) and won nothing and that was it in like two years of waiting, I guess that I was extremely unlucky, hope you do a lot better!

Well the current rate that the fund pays is 0.5% so 5,000 yields €25 per year.

Half of that probably goes on the big prizes as well so you can expect to win one €50 prize every 4 years with that amount of bonds

Gosh I will have a long wait so !!

Is it envisaged that the prize payout on PB will improve in the future and who, what, when, etc is that determined ?

It is determined by the NTMA. The next time they do a change it will be notified on the web site immediately before the change is scheduled. The effective date usually falls on a Sunday. Your guess is as good as anyone else when the next change will be, and whether it will be a reduction or an increase.
