Yes, they are a lot more involved though - file tax returns, pay fees, etc.

I'm sure if most average people knew how to invest in stocks in Ireland, and knew what tax and charges they would be expecting and how to handle them, there would be far fewer pb holders.

You'd imagine with interest rates so low, it wouldn't be worth the Indo's while to hold on to PB winnings for a week or so .... still waiting for them to post me my €50 win from 27th Oct 2017 ...

Don't hold your breath. I used to do prize crosswords in the Sunday papers and I won a few times. It took about 2 to 4 months for the prizes to arrive. I found out that the papers employ outside companies to send out the prizes. I still have two nice bottles of Courvoisier and Hennessy XO brandy for my efforts. I was never a serious "comper" but some people make a living out of it.

Nothing again this week, last win 22nd September €50.
It's interesting pbwinner has won €200 this year on 25k, I've won €400 so far this year on 50k, so averages wins prevail it seems, no win yet on 10k batch purchased in September 2017.
I live in hope, I dream big, there is always next Friday.

Your average is far better than mine - I'm only at a .53% return - by far the worst in years.

I see the English Premium bond interest rate is going up in December from 1.15% to 1.4%
Might be time to buy a few of these, can an Irish person buy these or are they only for English people ??
I thought our little fund was big at €3+ billion theirs is a whopping £71+ billion

Lots of people are suspicious of how the Prize Bonds draw is done. They think it is rigged and the only way to get a prize is to complain.

The same concerns about Premium Bonds are dismissed as "Common Myths" by the UK government. Are they more trustworthy?

They haven't brought me any luck anyway in the almost 60 years - you'd imagine they would have found my ONE premium Bond by now :D:D:D - must have a word with my (late) godfather and tell him it was a waste of money!

The funds sound about right though based on 4.5 million vs 70 million population. London is still ranked as the top financial centre in the world, so I am actually surprised the UK fund is not considerably larger.

Interestingly enough, it looks like both the Irish prize bonds and UK equivalent premium bonds started around the same time in the mid to late 50's. I expected the UK fund to be a lot older.

I have a relatively small holding (5k) in prize bonds and my 'return' has been dreadful. Over 7 years, I believe I have won whopping 100 EUR.

The Securicor armoured truck, with army and garda escort, arrived at last this morning with my €50 prizebond winnings from 27th October. :)

Tuis, didn't someone say that you only win once you start complaining/threatening to withdraw your bonds on this thread?? Give it a try!

hope your luck changes next week...

Lots of people said that so it must be true. It certainly worked spectacularly for this poster in July. Either they got 5 prizes in the one draw, or a special prize category was created just for them.

I have a couple of K in these too.
I've won next to nothing in the last few years ( in fact, that might be exactly nothing ), so I mailed them to complain and ask what the position with transparency was.

    The following week I won €250 - coincidence ?????????

    (lets try)

So, if I don't win anything next week I'm definitely taking ALL of my bonds out!!!!!!

I am surprised so many people still 'invest' in prizebonds. Although I still follow this thread as it has been a interesting read.

I hold only a few prizebonds but I see it as an alternative to cash in my portfolio.

Finally someone on here see's PBs the way I do :)

In relation to the UK PBs afaik, I as an Irish citizen can buy them once I have a UK bank account so how does one go about getting a UK bank account when your not resident in the UK ??
