Nothing for me today. The 50K winner in Wexford would have been bought in the mid 1960's.

Lucky bonds in Fermanagh, they got all three of the wins in the county today. And last week they got one of the four.

    3 prizes shown

    €50 ACK332291 Fermanagh
    €50 ACK334888 Fermanagh
    €50 ACK336109 Fermanagh

    €50 ACK336047 Fermanagh

    Nothing here either.

Look at it this way, we preserved and protected our capital during a market meltdown, probably more to come aswell.

I cashed out a quarter of my pbs to buy the lows of the markets in the next few weeks.

Also handy to get rid consolidate all of the smaller bonds. :D

As a very rough guide I took the newest bond number to win a prize in each of the last four draws. Between 28 Feb and 06 March the difference was 1.84 million. 06 to 13 March 2.49 million. 13 to 20 March 3.08 million. For two draws last Oct it was 1.7 million.

I think there will be a lot of money looking for a safe haven now.

Just to annoy the regulars on here, I bought my first batch of prize bonds in January (2k worth initially) and had a 50 euro winner from that batch in the very first draw they entered :)

I mean we only have anecdotal evidence and it has to be bullsh1t but Ive noticed it myself, new bonds winning straight away... I won €100 last wek on my last batch in their first draw aswell.

I doubt that it annoys anyone - I'm sure all of us 'regulars' could give examples of same.

The Wexford bond was bought in 1966. Letter I prefix means that only around 10 million bonds had been issued from 1957 to 1966. Now they are doing 3 million a week. Of course back then a bond would have cost a weeks wages for many.

Wexford also got the €1 million prize at the end of December 2019.

I've had 15k in prize bonds since March of last year. Not a penny yet.

What is the quickest way to make a large purchase and how easy is it to cash out of them? Thx

All the details are on their website. Whichever way you choose to pay, the money will likely leave your account very quickly. Or you will have to hand over cash. But your new bonds won't be in the draw until the process to register them is complete.

I only mention this because there could be a surge of applications for purchases and withdrawals, and they might not be fully staffed at present. I could see them giving priority to withdrawals. If there is going to be a big delay in registering bonds, the only way to make things fair would be to let those bonds stay in the draw for a few weeks after they are cashed. Or tweak the software like they do for IR£ bonds to give them a better chance of winning in a number of upcoming draws.

I think I will keep an eye on their website to see if they post any information. If there is a delay in posting out the physical bonds, that won't matter once they are on the register. One other thing to be aware of, you have to hold the bonds for three months before you can cash them in.

    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/1993/si/337/made/en/print

5 Issue of bonds and registration.

    5. (1) As soon as may be after receipt of the purchase money in respect of bonds, the Operator shall allocate an individual serial number to each bond and a bond certificate showing the relevant serial numbers shall be issued by the Operator to the holder.

    (2) A bond shall be registered in the register of bonds to be kept by the Operator in the name (or, as appropriate, joint names or title) of the purchaser of such bond or the person for whom such bond was purchased.

    (3) The Operator shall record in the register the last address furnished by the holder for the purpose of receiving any document (including the bond certificate) or notification issued by the Operator in relation to the bond.

    (4) A bond shall be deemed to have been issued when it has been registered in the register.

There is a message from State Savings on the Prize Bonds site about the virus. The Help and Support link is not working for me.

If they are the sort of people who know about shares, they would have been in the markets already. And maybe they are, and their Prize Bonds would be the ultra safe part of their portfolios. It would make more sense to leave the funds in Prize Bonds, unless they have figured out that the market is going to bottom next week. More likely they would be people who need to get some money for day to day living expenses, with so many facing into hard times.

Nobody can know how many extra bonds are being cashed in. But my post on the previous page shows that there has been a surge in purchases, starting about three weeks ago. And it will be interesting to see on Friday how much that has increased in the last week.

Have they stopped the draws or something. I have over €200k in Prize Bonds and nothing in weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,021 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

With average luck, 200K would win 3 prizes (3.23) in the 12 draws so far this year.
