As a very rough guide I took the newest bond number to win a prize in each of the last four draws. Between 28 Feb and 06 March the difference was 1.84 million. 06 to 13 March 2.49 million. 13 to 20 March 3.08 million. For two draws last Oct it was 1.7 million.

I think there will be a lot of money looking for a safe haven now.

Newest number to win on 20 March ARC039531. Newest on 27 March ARG336724. I make that a difference of 4,297,193, which would be sales of €26,857,456 in a week.

Nothing for me today. The 50K winner in Wexford would have been bought in the mid 1960's.

Lucky bonds in Fermanagh, they got all three of the wins in the county today. And last week they got one of the four.

    3 prizes shown
Prize Value Winning Prize Bond Location

    €50 ACK332291 Fermanagh
    €50 ACK334888 Fermanagh
    €50 ACK336109 Fermanagh

    €50 ACK336047 Fermanagh

The ACK bonds in Fermanagh continued their lucky streak today. Nothing for me.

    2 prizes shown

Am I reading this correctly - that more than €26 million worth of Prize Bonds were bought in the last week??????

Nothing surprising there. Page 21 of the Annual Report shows that up to €60 million were bought in a month in 2018, average €47.8 million per month. The 2019 report should be out next month if it not delayed, and we can see how things went last year. In these extraordinary times people with spare money will be looking for somewhere safe. But it will only be a temporary surge.

    https://www.statesavings.ie/media/pdf/prizebonds_annualreport_2018.pdf

It is not an exact calculation. Some newer bonds after the newest winning number each week would exist. And it is only those bonds which were registered in time for the draw. There could be a substantial amount of purchase money waiting to be processed.

How long does it take the prize pool to adjust to these surges or do they even bother?

They do it every month, by changing the number of €50 prizes. There are about six months details of the draws on their site, and you can see the numbers there. The number has increased every month for as long as I can remember, indicating more money comes in than goes out every month.

I usually post the numbers here on the day of the first draw of each month.

Hi,just a quick question, how safe are prize bonds going forward, considering we could be in for a rough couple of years, could the Government devalue the prize bonds by some mechanism.?Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,531 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

Think when this crisis ends I'll have a look and take some or maybe all of my bonds out.

Haven't had a win of any amount in months, could be more than a year on what I'd class as a fairly considerable amount of bonds.
Has to be better options out there for my cash.

    €50 today :)
I swear I didn't have anything to do with any of the €26m invested last week (nor with whatever was invested this week) but ... 2 X €50 this week! :):)

As with Andrew above, two weeks in a row - must be a glitch in the system!

    Wins on 3rd April 2020: €50
    Previous last win - 27th March 2020: €50
Weeks since previous last win: 1
€134k invested in prize bonds since July 2017
Win ratio: 17 wins in 144 weeks (12%)
    2017 (Jul-Dec): 5 x €50 = €250
    2018 (Jan-Dec): 4 x €50 = €200
    2019 (Jan-Dec): 5 x €50 = €250
    2020 (Jan-date): 3 x €50 = €150

From 03 April draw. Nothing for me.

    Bond number 5982 won €50.
Tyrone got 9 prizes. The other 5 counties in the North got 8 between them.
Newest winning number ARJ638567. 27 March was ARG336724. Difference 3,301,843 new bonds registered. Equals sales of €20,636,519, but the actual figure would be slightly different.

€50 prizes each draw in January 2019 4,516. December 2019 4,940. January 2020 4998. February 5050. March 5084. April 5179. Recalculated at the start of each month. Reflects a continuing net increase in the fund, with more new bonds being bought than old ones being cashed in. And it shows the surge in sales versus encashments in the last three weeks of March.

That bond is 63 years old. Talk about patience being a virtue.....

I hope someone gets the money. This is a list of some prizes belonging to early numbers, which either could not be traced (Unclaimed) or did not cash their cheques.

    https://www.statesavings.ie/prize-bonds/search-result-is-winner

There are tens of thousands of them listed, including prizes in IR£, and some for very big amounts. If I search for a wide range of numbers it only shows one page of results.

Maybe you have done some research in the last few days, with a view to getting a better return? It is a bit of a recurring theme on the thread, but it turns out there is very little choice if you want to fully protect your capital. 0.21% per annum, subject to 33% DIRT is the best you can get with easy access. Even tying up your money for longer periods is not much better.

    http://www.moneyguideireland.com/best-savings-rates/instant-access

Of course there are lots of other ways of making money out of money. But the occasional visitors to the thread who derided us for not being in the stock market, have not made any appearances lately with their surefire tips.

I have 8000 euro in prize bonds -- they've been sitting there for a year -- and I have won 75 twice and 250 once.

    decent..more than a bank etc.

Long live the glitch! Hope the glitch works positively for you all today and for all the months ahead!

Happy and safe Easter to all.

Would appreciate if you could direct that glitch in my direction. 0 again today.
Think I will cash in and buy back 1 large batch to see if the new ones will change my luck.
    Stay safe everyone.

€50 for me today from my Big Bunch.

Prize Value Winning Prize Bond Location
    €50 MC927809 Louth

My last win was 13 March, including a very close number to today's winner.
    €50 MC927658 Louth
    €50 MC937587 Louth

Newest winning number this week ARM085800. Last week it was ARJ638567. Difference 2,447,233, sales of approx €15,295,200. That's another 2.5 million new bonds chasing the extra 100 or so prizes added last week.

I counted the number of winners in each of the million bonds in the ARA to ARL series, total of 12 million bonds. Total 100 wins, best ARD 13, worst ARG 4. Anyone thinking of getting new bonds for old in the expectation that they will perform better, my advice don't bother.
