Logged into the prize bond tracker today and got the green congrats page telling me I'd won 50. Won another 50 about 5 weeks ago.

Prior to that had only won 50 about 2 years ago. Have about 24k in bonds.

€60k in prizebonds, 3 wins last year, not a sausage this year............

This is the random of it all, I've 60k too and I had 5 wins last year and only 1 win this year on April 9th, have you got your 60k in 1 single block, I'v mine in 10k 20k and a 30k purchased over the 3 years, pbwinner who start this long running thread has done considerable well with 25k, here's my figures for the last few years 2019 €250euro
    2018 €100euro
    2017 €400euro
    2016 €350euro and here's pbwinner's figures
    2011: €75 x 4 €300
    2012: €75 x 6 €450
    2013: €50 x 12 €600
    2014: €50 x 9 €450
    2015: €50 x 5 €250
    2016: €50 x 5 €250
    2017: €50 x 4 €200
    2018: €50 x 2 €100
    2019: €50 x 6 €300
    2020: €50 x 2 €100
It's an interesting comparison, I had considered putting in another 40k bringing my holding up to 100k, but I've reconsidered, enough is enough, another poster here has 134k and is not doing much better, I'II just stick with my 60k plus 100 old bonds that I purchased from 1985 to 1990 AF to AN series, which won €75 in 2012 & 2013 after holding them for 24 years, it's all just pure radom luck yesterday's bond OU121530 could be just a single lone bond sitting in a dusty draw maybe not part of any holding and randomly wins a million, I hope the holder is still around and in good health to enjoy thieir newfound fortune.

It is not possible to do an exact comparison without knowing when you bought the 30, 20 and 10. And what months you won the €400 in 2017. The nominal interest rate used to calculate the number of prizes went down from 0.85% to the present 0.5% on 01 August 2017.

But for arguments sake if you held the full 60K from the start of 2017, and the interest rate was 0.5% from the start of 2017 you would expect to win 14.7 prizes. 4.2 expected wins per year on 60K x 3.5 years. You got 16 prizes so it has worked out pretty close.

The expected wins is calculated at a nominal interest rate of 0.35% because that is the portion of the prize fund which goes to €50 winners.

I won €1,000 in 2010, and again in 2015. See my post #3402 on page 227. A work colleague who would not be aware of this thread won €500 about two years ago. We are only a tiny minority here, so you would not expect to see many reports about big wins.

I must say, 7 months for a €50 return is pretty applying when there is €70k 'invested'.

Quick question - just when you say you logged onto the tracker, are the winners not contacted or is it up to the owner of the Bonds to keep checking ??

You can log into the tracker to check if you have won in the most recent draw (or since you last logged in)

Last week I logged in on the Saturday and if you have won - you are greeted by a green congratulations page - if you are not greeted by that, no need to look further, lol.

About a week later the notification of win and new prize bond (I elected to get new bonds for small winnings) came in the post.

    When are the draws?
The Prize Bond draw takes place every week and nearly always on a Friday. Details of the next draw are on the Prize Bonds page of our website. The draw results are available online from 12.30pm and the top eleven prize winning numbers are available at all Post Offices from that afternoon.

There were 4,998 €50 prizes in the January draws based on the value of the fund on 31 Dec 19 which was €3.655 billion. The number of prizes based on the value of the fund on 30 June has gone up to 5,431 an increase of 8.7%. Applying that to the fund value gives €3.973 billion.

Sales in the first half of 2019 were €261,639 million and encashments were €145,999 million, from the Annual Report. Using the newest winning numbers rough calculation method the sales in the first half of 2020 are €420 million. That makes the encashments €102 million.

I have €290k of Prize Bonds. One group of €100k had a total of €600 in wins in 3 years.

I parked this €100k in Prize Bonds after selling shares in a particular company.

The dividends alone from this company over a 3 year period would have been over €14k. So not a good decision on my part, considering the share price remained fairly constant over the 3 years.

Have started reducing my Prize Bond holding as a result. No worth it anymore. I can put the funds to better use elsewhere.

Thanks for posting this. While I agree with Taylor365 that Prize Bonds are largely a place to park cash (my holding is comprised of three distinct cash piles) it is always interesting to hear what others are thinking.
