For just the first 5,000 of the AN series there is quite a bit of money waiting to be claimed, including prizes from before the Euro. There are tens of thousands of bonds like this.

    Unclaimed / Uncashed Winnings
If unclaimed within 6 months, a prize becomes unclaimed.

    For AN000001 - AN004999

Prize Bond Number Prize Value Status

    AN000068 €126.97 Unclaimed
    AN000105 €63.49 Unclaimed
    AN000106 €50.00 Unclaimed
    AN000898 €126.97 Unclaimed
    AN002441 €75.00 Uncashed
    AN002550 €75.00 Uncashed
    AN002827 €50.00 Uncashed

In 2010 an appeal was issued on 4 unclaimed star prizes, 3 were eventually claimed, but prize bond P137675 purchased in Cork in November 1975 and won the star prize in December 1991 to date after 29 years is still unclaimed, valued at €19,046.07, this is probably the old star prize value of £15,000 now converted to euros.

Close. I have one from '75 starting P290...

I use the on-line checker and nothing has ever shown up for this one. Does the checker actually go back all the way if you set the date on the form back that far?

It only goes back 6 months. But the other tab Unclaimed / Uncashed lets you enter any range of numbers. I find that if I put a large range it only returns the first page. Here is a very early bond which won twice and nobody got the money. That is not unusual.

For A100000 - A104499 (just the first three results)
Prize Bond Number Prize Value Status

    A100268 €50.00 Unclaimed
    A101042 €50.00 Unclaimed
    A101042 €75.00 Unclaimed

My bank has a daily limit of €2,500 on my debit card. I don't want to have to buy in numerous transactions. How have others bought more than this value in one go? Crazy that Prize Bonds don't take bank transfer.

Once you have a State Savings account, send a cheque to Dublin. Can be any value up to personal holdings limit of €250k

Thank you. Just checked and no luck. I didn’t know about that aspect of the site. Pity it is not a bit more intuitive to find.

I'm always intrigued about unclaimed prizes, particularly large prizes, what's the circumstances, somebody move and not leave a forwarding address, maybe somebody dies, house sold and a bond stuck in the back of a draw or between the pages of an old book and thrown out into a skip when decluttering begins, the bond lost forever and prize goes unclaimed and the Prize Bond Company binded by contract never to disclosed the mystery winner, they can only disclose the bond number, P137675

The approx €3 million unclaimed prizes is only a drop in the ocean compared to other money which has been abandoned.

The Dormant Accounts Action Plan 2020 allocates funding totalling €45.5 million across 9 departments and for 43 measures which aim to address disadvantage or support persons with a disability.

The value of old Irish money that has not been swapped for euro since the change in currency equates to around €350 million.

    Jun 10th 2020
ALMOST NINETEEN MILLION Euro worth of National Lottery prizes went unclaimed last year

Not being a bond holder myself, do they ask for your PPS number on the application form?
Presumably they don't go actively chasing bond winners but I'd imagine holding PPS numbers would enable them to track if a bond holder has changed address, passed away, or locate a next of kin.

I wonder if most of that is deliberate, people wanting to keep memories. Also likely a big chunk of that is scattered around the world, tourists who never exchanged back to their home currency.

Yes they do require your PPS number however the use of this number and the exchange of data relating to it is controlled by law and it is unlikely that State Savings would be permitted to contact say Revenue or Social Welfare and request current address details for a PPSN, however well intentioned their request was. The same would apply to other Financial Institutions that collect your PPS number, e.g. Banks.

I kept some, and I also have some old banknotes from before the Punt. Including a 1928 fiver, the first year money was printed in Ireland.

If you have old currency in some countries it is now worthless.

Yes in recent years since about the year 2000, when CAB came into existence and the money laundering laws tighten up.
But back in the day in the 1970s no such laws existed, you simply walked in off the street into a post office and purchased prize bonds, the grey haired post mistress took your fivers and your name address and gave you a receipt and the bond arrived in the post a week later, no PPS numbers required in those days, so much more difficult tracing mystery winners.

Joining in the thread. Have 11k in since 2019 and have won €100 thus far. Might just throw the rest of my credit union savings of 40k in, as not getting much return at the minute (well, for the past few years!).

I think we have all won big prizes here hence the problems.
