There is about €350 million in Punts still out there, and the Central Bank will exchange it indefinitely.

    "MON, 13 JUN, 2022

THE Central Bank has swapped more than €2.9m worth of old punts over the last four years, including more than €625,000 in coins.

All the largest exchanges last year were worth less than €10,000, according to records, with the highest transaction dealing with £7,724, or €9,808, in ‘new money’."

Your two IR£5 bonds can be cashed in for €6.35 each. In the draws they are given a weighting to reflect their value compared to the current bonds worth €6.25 each.

    2.         The Prize Bonds Regulations are hereby amended—

    (a)        in Regulation 2, by the substitution of the following definition for the definition of “bond”:

“ “bond” means a prize bond with a principal repayable value of—

    (a)    in the case of a bond to which the serial number DL000001 or a subsequent serial number has been allocated pursuant to Regulation 5, €6.25; and

    (b)    in the case of all other bonds, €6.35”;

    (b)        in paragraph (1) of Regulation 4, by the substitution of “€6.25” for “ £5”; and

    (c)        in Regulation 9, by the substitution of the following paragraph for paragraph (2):

“(2) Each bond included in a draw shall have a chance of being selected for a prize in proportion to the principal repayable in respect of the bond.”.

    3.         (1)        These Regulations may be cited as the Prize Bonds (Amendment) Regulations, 2004.

    Haven't posted in a while

Had 21 wins last year on €245k all of them been €50s

Happy new year to you all

    😘

Well done. I thought I was doing ok with 15x€50 on €258k !

If you don't mind me asking, did you have the same total sum invested in 2020 and 2021, and what were your €50 wins in those years ? (I seem to remember you had a larger win at some point, but I may be wrong in that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Agent Smyth

Yes I had the "Big" €1k win on the 29th of January 2021 which brought that years winnings up to €2050, 22 wins

And had €315K for the year in PB's

    sorry second correction!!

Just went through my posts for 2020 and I don't seem to have posted any winning before May in 2020

and what I can see is I only won 11 times, all €50s on the same amount

If I get time I might route through my files and see if that's correct

    Happy new year everyone.

    Winnings on 6th December 2023: €0

    Winnings on 13th December 2023: €0

    Quite negative predictions.

It's amazing what you do forget!!!

The reason I'd no wins in 2020 till end of May 2020 is I'd had run down the PB fund to around €65k by end of March

But in April I bought €250k which brought my holdings back up to the €315k

So for the final six months of 2020 I had eleven wins on €315k

315k in prize bonds is massive sum, the price of a house.

Would you not consider speaking to independent financial advisor for other options or is it simply you feel there's too much uncertainy around global stock markets presently.

  • Registered Users Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Agent Smyth

And what makes you think that I don't already have other investments that are giving me a better return 😘

  • Registered Users Posts: 493 ✭✭Shauna677

Ah ok, you would be unusual in the sense the vast majority of people wouldnt have your wealth. You have of course a much more elevated chance of winning when you have hundreds of thousands to put into the prize bonds

Bought a couple more batches recently which were issued 11 days apart.

Was curious how many Prizebonds were sold in those 11 days.

Including the ones I bought there were 2,931,009 Units issued.

That works out at about €50 million for 30 days. I do a post after the first draw of each month working out the approximate value of sales in the previous month. By taking the difference between the newest winning numbers. €50 million is very much in the ball park.

See post #8422 where I made the sales for December 2022 to be around €47 million. And as it was the end of the year, post #8423 sales of around €617 million for the year. The monthly sales and encashment figures are published in the annual reports. You can see the 2021 figures in the link below, page 22. 2022 figures will be out sometime around April or May.

The UK's National Savings & Investments Board are increasing the rate paid on their Premium Bonds to 3.15%, winning odds are 24,000:1 per £1 bond, minimum purchase is £25, max. is £50k. This follows the rate increasing from 2.20% to 3.00% on 1 January 2023. An investment of £50K could see an average return of around £1575.

Any chance that State Savings will get even close to 3%?

Has anyone ever gotten the error "sorry we were unable to process your payment" when trying to purchase Prize Bonds? I thought I might have been over my bank daily transfer limit so I tried reducing the value and still no luck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 733 ✭✭✭Sligo Quay

Good for you, that's a fantastic investment, highest I ever went was 100k with 4 batches 10k 20k 30k 40k, I cashed in the 40k batch in July 2022 bringing mine back down to 60k with 3 batches 10k 20k 30k, I might cash in the 10k batch this year and hold on to the 20k 30k batches.

Nothing for me this week, last win 2nd December 2022 €50.

I see ZH65696 won the 50k and it's not a Greek bond, it's Waterford, the Greek bonds are higher up in the 800000s

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,021 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    Nothing for me.

January count, the same 15 million bonds BCB to BCP in each of the four draws. Not counting a €500 and a €1,000 winners.

Friday 06. 104 prizes, highest BCF 11, lowest BCI 1.

    Friday 13. 84, BCI 9, BCC 2.

    Friday 20. 105, BCH & BCJ 11 each, BCG 1.

    Friday 27. 80, BCG 11, BCH & BCM 2 each.

    Highest overall BCF 33 (11,6,7,9). Lowest BCM 19 (6,3,8,2).

    60 million bonds won 373 prizes, average per million 6.217. x 52 x €50 = €16163.33. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €258.61, nearest to 5 x €50.

Yes. It was my bank that caused the issue. I had to call them and they fixed it for one purchase, but then it happened again. So, I transferred cash into Revolut and that went through without any problems.
