€50 for me today, first win since 20 January. 2 wins in the first 6 months of 2023, compares with 8 wins in 2022 and 8 wins in 2021. The interest rate changed in Feburary 2021, so the comparison is close enough.

June count. The same 13 million bonds BDS to BEE in each of the five draws. Not including 4 x €1,000 prizes won by these bonds.

Friday 02. 84 wins. Highest BDU 10, lowest BEC 3.

    Friday 09. 86. BDU & BEE 9 each. BED 3

    Friday 16. 96. BEC 13. BEA 4.

    Friday 23 80. BDZ 11. BEB 1.

    Friday 30. 62. BDU 9. BDS 2.

    Highest overall BDU 42 (10,9,6,8,9). Lowest BEA 21 (4,6,4,4,3).

    65 million bonds won 408 prizes, average per million 6.277. x 52 x €50 = €16320. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €261.12. Nearest to 5 x €50.

Yes a nice little boost and probably somebody who emigrated to Australia and very wisely notified the Prize Bond of the change of address, very important and somebody emigrating to Australia the last thing on their minds is prize bonds, not in this case, I think the last overseas winner of a large prize was that Greek bond holder ZH won 50k over a year ago.

Nothing for poor old me again.

Poor Northern Ireland, only 5 €50 prizes to share amongst them all. I'd say they'll get better news on Tuesday from Premium Bonds.

Nothing in June on €170k, nothing in 2023,will cash out at least half next week -just flogging a dead horse with these things it seems- with that measly rate, especially now the banks are giving much better rates.A few options out there now at least.

So one win in five years on 25k then, you did well to stick it out for so long? Keep us updated on your UK bonds(is the rate over 3% or something now?),Good luck, hope you're quids in👍👍👍

The half year numbers are in, sort of. PB holders have won 124,596 prizes of a total value €8,292,500. €6,202,500 of that were €50 prizes. The average prize is €66.56, although you can't win that much as most people get nothing. Your odds of winning a prize last week were 157,000:1 per bond or over the six months 6,085:1.

Interestingly the PB fund has grown by just *€44 million suggesting a slow down in investment during the last six months, possibly as people move money for better returns. We saw the start of that trend last year when 'Sales less Repayments' were 24% down on 2021. So sales are falling as repayments grow. To arrest this they may increase the prize rate from 0.35% later in the year and follow general rate rises elsewhere.

*The calculation is to take the prizes value X2 by the 0.35% prize rate to estimate the fund at €4.738B, ye 2022 €4.694B

Folks aren't saying how much they have invested in Prize Bonds just how much they have earned. I want to buy some but the prize rate is unbelievably low!

Strange that there is no calculator available to calculate odds.

    Nothing for me today.

The number of €50 prizes in the July draws is 4,809 down from 4,810 in June. The newest bond to win on 02 June was BEE615869, newest 07 July BEK750751. Sales of around €38.34 million.

Someone in Cork got an immediate return on their purchase this week.

Prize Value Winning Prize Bond Location

    €50.00 BEK480383 Cork

    €50.00 BEK480832 Cork

That small drop could be further confirmation of a change happening in the PB market. I've got a feeling sales are down by 20-25% or so and repayments are up a lot.

What do you estimate sales ytd are? In 2022 first half sales were €323,025m, repayments €175,146m, net fund growth was €147,879m. Fund growth was €105,289m in the second half of 2022, 28% less than the first half.

I estimated fund growth in the first half of 2023 to be €44m. That could be off by +/- €15m easily, but not €100m out!

I used to post details of my holding but was attacked for it on a couple of occasions so I stopped doing so.

There is a calculator which allows you to see the returns based on your holding in this thread on AAM.

There was also a small drop from 4,812 to 4,810 in June, the first time it went down since the 0.35% rate started in February 2021. In fact the first ever fall in years for any given interest rate, possibly over 20 years. The rate was 3% in 2012 and has been coming down ever since, but that never stopped the massive inflow to the fund. NTMA will be very happy to see the fund going down, as they have been trying to stop the inflow for years. I don't think there is much prospect of them increasing it, when they have too much in the fund already, and in all the State Savings products.

The number of €50 prizes in January was 4,712 now 4,809 an increase of 2.058% in the first six months. Applying that to the €4.694 billion at the end of 2022 would be an increase of around €96 million in the fund.

Adding up the sales I computed at the start of each month gives €284 million for the first half of 2023. Which means around €180 million was cashed in, and a further €8 million went out in prizes, as per your figure.

Why settle for "at least" half? If you consider it a "dead horse," why not cash in the entire thing, especially if you think there are more attractive options out there? Based on your previous posts, it's evident that you strongly dislike holding bonds. So, for the sake of your mental well-being, consider selling them all. That way, you won't have to dwell on them any longer.

The €50K winner on 07 July was bought in 2018.

"This week's Prize Bond Star Prize of €50,000 goes to lucky Prize Bond number AMM059253 held in County Tipperary. The lucky bond was purchased in 2018. There were over 4,830 prizes awarded in this week’s Prize Bond Draw, amounting to €305,500."

Why don't they tell you how much each person who wins has invested?

Prize Bond winners are automatically contacted following each draw. In order to ensure the confidentiality and security of the prizes, winners are contacted by post in a plain envelope.

They make a point of confidentiality as per the above. Some people have multi million Euro holdings from before the time of the €250K max. You can see them in the weekly draws. If they published that someone in Leitrim won 4 x €50 last week from a holding of €2 million in Prize Bonds, it might arouse some curiousity in the local media.

UK Premium Bonds do put a note of the holdings of winners, but their max holding is £50,000 Sterling, so less of an issue with that.

    I've a holding of 3800 since March and I won 50 euro on 7/7/23.

Completely beat the odds there. I can see why people have money in PBs. Getting the letter is a rush

    Second Chance !

For anybody who checked the results today between 12:30 pm and 1:00pm and didn't win anything it might be worth checking again. The results were late (Thanks State Savings for not bothering to tell anybody) - I checked at 12:35 and nothing, and when I checked again just after 1pm it turned out I'd won €100.

No win first time. No win second time. Just €50 won on 125k so far this year.

I accept I'm probably saying something most here already know, but you'd be looking at those winnings and more per month - not per year - on the UK equivalent Premium Bonds. The win rate is 4% from August. In particular it amazes me that anyone at all in the north would bother with Prize Bonds when they have such easy access to Premium Bonds, they must be doing absolutely no research at all on them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,021 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

The people in the North with Prize Bonds are probably maxed out on Premium Bonds as well. The maximum holding allowed is £50,000. Prize Bonds are a nice addition to the portfolio of people with diversified investments. A super secure sum with an even stronger guarantee than bank savings. This is the point which is missed by those coming on the thread to criticize. As well as that they may prefer the small bit of excitement of having 52 draws a year instead of 12.

Nothing for me today. I took a random €1,000 winner in Laois and a €500 winner in Cork and looked back six months to see if they had any other good luck. Turns out they had.
