Another count. In January the number of €50 prizes per week was 4,712. In September it was 4,764. In between it reached a high of 4,812 in May, but has declined since.

€9,313,500 has been paid out in €50 prizes, plus €2,385,000 in big prizes, a total of €11,698,500. 79.61277% of the money went to €50 prizes. Applying that to the 0.35% interest rate gives 0.278645. So someone with €100K would get €278.65 interest if it was interest instead of €50 prizes.

I know that is different to the €253.75 calculated from my monthly counts. That was derived from 17 months where the number of €50 prizes was lower, as well as the 9 months this year.

Your money will absolutely be safe, no issues there.

If it’s a return you’re looking for though, then you can forget about PBs coming anywhere close to even matching inflation. PBs serve a purpose (I have money in them myself), but I’m not sure they can be considered an investment, despite the title of this thread.

Someone has been working overnight. I checked late on Saturday night 30 September, and the Prize Bonds website was the old information. At 9 am Sunday, it is up to date, and there is a new version of the brochure.

    https://www.statesavings.ie/prize-bonds

Prize Bonds - €500,000 to be won each month

You may buy Prize Bonds easily. Every Prize Bond is in with a chance to win €500,000 each month and up to €50,000 in all weekly draws.

How long does withdrawal usually take? I'm waiting 2 and a half weeks already.

    It took 3/4 working days for mine to appear in the bank. I'd call them asap on 0818 20 50 60 or 01 705 7200 (lines open Mon-Fri, 08:00 - 20:00)

They say up to 7 working days from the date they get the application. Could be something to do with bank details?

"5. BANK TRANSFER Funds will be paid to the IBAN provided in the Bank Transfer Instruction panel on this form. The IBAN you have supplied may be saved for future payments to you in connection with State Savings. The IBAN provided must be in the names of at least one of the State Savings account holders. If an IBAN is provided for a bank account that is (a) not in the name of all State Savings account holders or (b) is in the names of third parties additional to the State Savings account holder(s), by signing in the Bank Transfer Instruction panel you are authorising the funds to be paid to this IBAN. NTMA or its agents shall not be liable (in contract, tort or otherwise) for any loss or damage suffered by you in the event that the IBAN or account details provided by you are incorrect or are provided in error. If you have not previously supplied State Savings with your IBAN details or you have changed bank account since your previous repayment via bank transfer, you must enclose a copy of an original bank statement header (dated within the last 12 months) verifying the IBAN and account name. Failure to supply the required proof of bank statement may delay the payment process."

I don’t check regularly if I’ve won anything or not but I returned from holidays yesterday to find a letter saying I won €50 in the draw on 22/09. My first win since i bought €10k of PB almost 3 years ago.

Quick question. I can purchase a prize bond on statesavings.ie, but in order to register for an online account I must already own a bond?

Am I reading that correctly from the website?

As a long time follower of this thread I finally got some prize bonds. Only 4.5k so less than a fifth that of the OP and won €50 this week can't say which batch I won on but all would have been bought as lots of 200, 300 or 500 over the last three months.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Sort of. You would need to make your first purchase using the paper based system. The best way to do this is buy €25 (or more) worth in person at the post office.

Forgot that last Friday was end of quarter. Cumulative winnings comparison as at the end of September. My holding has increased over the years.

    2018 (Jan-Sept) - 11@€50     €550

    2019 (Jan-Sept) - 16@€50    €800

    2020 (Jan-Sept) - 20@€50    €1,000

    2021 (Jan-Sept) - 3@€50     €150

    2022 (Jan-Sept) - 11@€50     €550

    2023 (Jan-Sept) - 20@€50    €1,000

Roll on the new slightly more realistic prize structure.

The return rates on prize bonds is very low when compared to a deposit account. There are much better options out there. If its a considerable sum you might consider getting professional advice.

I won nothing again today on €100k in PB and am heading off to the post office to cash them in. Should have done it a long time ago!

    Congratulations!

Your saved Prize Bond numbers have won €225.00 since you last logged in.

I just wanted to copy and paste this before it disappears when I log in again. More observations to follow.

Nothing at all so far this year on €50,000.

    Last win was Sept 2022.

Hoping the change in rates/prize structure from the next draw brings me some luck.😉

    And it did.

    Congratulations!

Your saved Prize Bond numbers have won €75.00 since you last logged in.

Clever of you to save up your wins for this week. If that was last week it would have been a mere €150 !!

My greeting today was “Your saved Prize Bond numbers have won €75.00 since you last logged in.”

The first of many I hope. Roll on the good slightly better times…..

I don't have a huge amount in PB but I look forward to every Friday as there is always hope.....

If you remember our little guessing game about how many €75 prizes there would be. You said somewhere just south of 10,000. I said 8,950. The actual number is 9,468, so maybe we can both claim victory.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,021 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

For future reference the number of €75 prizes in the October draws is 9,468, no valid comparison with last month possible.

I did a count of 14 million new bonds BEM to BEZ. 171 €75 prizes. Highest BEY 20. Lowest BEV 8. 14 million bonds won 171 prizes, average per million 12.214. x €75 x 52 = 47,635.71. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €762.17.

So an annual interest rate equivalent of 0.76%. Too small a sample to prove anything, but near to what would be expected in an interest rate increase to 1%.

Not including a €500 and a €1,000 won by these bonds. The €1,000 went to a BEZ bond which is brand new, and was the second bond drawn out today.

Won €75 ,fist win since June.

I actually withdrew 80% of my PB 2 weeks ago to put elsewhere.

Talk about a dead heat !!! Great minds think alike <Full Stop>

  • Registered Users Posts: 687 ✭✭✭POBox19

€75 today. I've won more in the last 4 months than the previous 8 years. Taking half my investment out in June worked.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,066 ✭✭✭tuisginideach

With 21 wins already, you've had a good 9+ months!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,547 ✭✭✭Hibernicis

I’m not complaining too much, well not as much as I did in 2021 anyway !!

Oddly enough, I also have withdrawn about 90% of my PBs since January, and I got my first €75 win in a year. With less than 500 bonds (about €3000). How come so many of us who were never winning anything, and on the first day of the new rates we start getting wins?

Someone mentioned in this thread that the draw wasn't working as expected since some past changes, maybe this change fixed it?
