Hi all, Was just wondering what your thoughts would be. I have 90 grand that is just coming out of a 3 year savings bond with the state savings. Should I just reinvest for another 3 years at 2.5% in the bonds or put it all into the prize bonds for 3 years for the chance to win something bigger maybe. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Generally short term bonds when interest rates are rising often a higher return, as the interest rates are upped every time you reinvest. Although I cant see interest rates rising in eurozone in the next 3 years. So a 3 year bond is fine. But anything longer I think is a poor decision

Roughly a 2% return on your investment, per year, over ~4 years. Not too bad considering that the capital is guaranteed and you can withdraw them at any time. A savings account with a bank would probably have returned slightly less over the same time depending on the bank.

Conclusion, prize bonds are much the same as a bank savings account in times of low interest rates however you do have a very low chance of getting a significant return on your investment.

Hope to be coming in to some cash in the next few months myself. Would €2k be a reasonable amount to invest in prize bonds, in your opinions?

    No.

Went from 0 to 4k over 2 years without a win.

IMO 2K would not be a good investment if you are looking to get a return, the last time I checked 2K would generate 1 win in 3 years.
Over the year my winnings have mainly come from the big sized batches I have.
Of course it's a game of luck and who's to say you wont win big with 2K

Am i correct in thinking that it is better to have a bulk purchase rather than a smattering of smaller denominations?

You are 100% correct the bigger the batch of bonds the higher the chance. I have 30k in one batch i won 3 times.. I have 10k won nothing. I also save 50 euro with them once a month and won nothing on that either. I would be better putting them all into one batch of bonds. I am talking facts now.
