Nice job on the outside of the premises, there's a sweet shop on the Butter Slip in Kilkenny that setup about 18 months back selling all our old favs from the 80's/90's and before and I have to say I was pretty skeptical it would last but its still there and they even do online ordering - http://www.slipsweetshop.com/

Lets hope the same goes for this shop :)

That's the future for small businesses in Ireland - specialise in one market.

Saw one of these about to open in cork a few weeks ago. Must be a franchise. Franchises are the way to in these times so says a report I heard yesterday.

Crazy that I never heard of these old fasinoned sweet shops till a few weeks ago and now there is like 4 in the city.

The Simms Unit looks great IMO.

This is a trend that's taking off a lot all over the country. Any I have seen in other places have done quite well.

All the small corner shops who used to sell the sweets seem to be disappearing and replaced with Londis or Spar so it makes sense tbh.

Are rubbish and expensive. Buy proper sweets and eat them occasionally.

I think there's another shop on Patrick St.

Theres a shop up here in galway that is specialising in all imported sweets from america and australia and its making a killing!
The future is definitely in niche, independant stores. Its taking a punt for the peple starting it up but if it takes off it can be very lucrative. Im delighted to see more businesses opening up back home. Ill have to pop in for a look whe im back down in a few weeks!

id like a place like that, that place in dublin in temple bar is similar, they have some american stuff, tootsie rolls, lucky charms and so on, I'd love if someone got in some twinkies though, love them things!

Yeah its a class shop. The bars and sweets and stuff like vanilla coke and cherry pepsi are a little dearer than regular shops which isnt too bad.
Theyre selling fruit loops and lucky charms at ten euro a box! Which is unreal.

It's a wonder that those cereals aren't available in the regular Supermarkets here anymore. I think I remember them being available during the '90s. People would have to really love their "lucky charms" to pay that much!

There's a website http://www.americansweets.co.uk/ that sells loads of U.S. stuff, it's not cheap as in STG£ and has to be shipped to Ireland, but if you were stocking up on lots of stuff it may be worth your while... Might be useful for anyone not based in Dublin or Galway. Not a fan of U.S. food in general myself except for H & H Bagels. I'd live in itsabagel if it opened up in Waterford.
