Fees Query

I just got a refund for my fees for this year. Im pretty certain that I am not due any refund because I paid the balance off exactly when they sent me a letter a few months ago asking for it. How would this of come about? Any possibility they would of made a mistake? Im doing a postgrad btw. Thanks in advance.
