Got a 8pk of Budweiser today, advertised 8 for 10 euro and girl at till asked for 11euro and odd, i pointed out it was 8 4 10 and she said thats the price on the till, f'ing kip.
Molloy's are way better value and customer service is by 10 time better.

Yeah its carry out. I've been impressed with it so far. Some good special and excellent range of niche beers and shouts.
One of the old staff is working there too.

Well, Carry Out didn't last long! It is now renamed as Chill In. Not sure if the inside has changed as I only passed by the door. I like their external colour scheme better than the Carry Out colours. Wonder why Carry Out didn't continue with the franchise.

I have never been able to work out how an offie can trade successfully with a Dunnes branch across the road. I rarely do a transaction in Dunnes without seeing someone in there buying drink in one of the queues, or seeing several people for that matter. They just get it with their groceries because it's handier. Maybe the more hardcore drinkers who couldn't give a fiddlers about food might go straight to the offie, but otherwise, why would you bother going to two different places when you can get everything in the same place for (presumably) the same price? I haven't ever noticed substantial savings in the offie, but then I don't drink much either so I wouldn't be the most frequent of customers. Good luck to Chill In anyway. Ongarboy, I agree with you on the colour scheme! That red used to hurt my eyes early in the morning!

I try and support small businesses. I often go to Dunnes for food and then over to the off licence for drink. This needs to be done in order to keep businesses open.

    :confused::confused::confused:

Maybe what you refer to as "hardcore" drinkers are just people who have food in their cupboards and they don't need to visit Dunnes?

What a strange comment to make!

Was in yesterday it's pretty much the same sort of stock.

There was one or two beers I I don't recall Carry out carrying but for the most part it's as you were.

Great wee shop. I came on to boards a few weeks ago looking for Belhaven Best, there were a couple of suggestions as to what pub might have something similar, but then I received a message from a worker in Chill in Ongar to tell me they were getting Belhaven in within the next week. I sent on my number and lo and behold, the following week I was in Chill and delighted to have in my possession 2 cases of Belhaven.
My guests from the North and Scotland were delighted (and surprised).
My suggestion is go in and ask, tell them. If you don't like the choice, let them know what you would like to see. If you don't like the lighting/colours etc, tell them. From my one and only experience to date of this store, I've personally found them to be fantastic.

Now that's what I call personalised and excellent customer service. Just goes to show, businesses who care about their customers go the extra mile by reading forums like this to address concerns or requirements are the ones that succeed.

The amount of businesses with poor customer service but blame "the recession" for the reason they fail should take note!

Great Value in that Shop blows the "Offy" at the paddocks out of the water> I wouldnt go near the paddocks off licence absolute rip off with no offers.
As well as the filthy looks the girls that work in it give you for disturbing them

Same experience for a friend of mine in the Chill off-license.
He asked about the possibility of getting a specialist Belgian beer into stock and true to their word, they got it in for him soon after.

Great to see and keeps punters coming back.

I an the friend in question. I was looking for Belgian beer called Kwak. I've been searching for this stuff for about 5 years. Within a week of asking, there was Kwak in the fridge. I cannot praise their customer service highly enough.

Only yesterday, I was looking for a wine to make a beef bourguignon and the Scottish guy who works there could not have been more helpful and really seemed to know his stuff.

And dont forget its not only getting in what punters ask for. The scot chap allways allways has a big hello and smile when you walk in. Thats one of the main reasons I go in. Allways points you to bargains and thanks you for your custom.
One thing i can not stand is spending 20 or 30 odd quid in a shop, and I am the one saying thanks for getting my change back lol.

Smile,"Hello, nice day isnt it, thank you, bye" costs feckin nothing and above anything else its common courtesy;)

I've been using the off licence in the center,12 cans of Bulmers and Bud for 15 euro,

Does the Ongar off licence do it for that price?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

They do 8 cans of Bud for 10 Euro, which I found to be exceptionally good.
