Anyone want to remind me how to get the general term of the Maclaurin series? I can't remember how to do it...
Write out the series with 1, 2, 3, 4... e.t.c under the respective terms.

Then look at the numbers which are changing in each term. It is an arithmetic sequence. Find the general term of the sequence and that is your general term.

If the terms alternate in sign add (-1)^n before the general term too.

I've learned some off..! :P Just gonna hope nothing stupid comes up!

(I know the general term of sinx, cosx e^x, lnx and (1+x)^m)

its not that easy, you are not allowed to have those type of calculators in the exam with you.
Eh yes you are. It's a standard Casio fx-83. Sharp writeviews also have a table mode.

any one come across some crazy questions yet?

How do you turn table mode on?

    (1+x)^m)
The general term of that is in the log tables :pac:

I'm not too sure. I've never had a Sharp Writeview but just keep playing around with the menus and you'll find it.

To get to table mode on a Casio, just push mode and then table.

    I'd like to warn people...

Judging by Paper I's style, Paper II is likely to have many odd questions. Trig may be plagued by theoretical questions based on the unit circle and elements of JC geometrical laws. Q6 and Q7 are likely to have abstract probability and abstract statistical questions and perhaps an odd difference equations question. Q1 and Q3 are likely to have many abstract questions perhaps based on concurrent lines or loci.

This is all worst case scenario, but judging by Paper I it seems a likely scenario.

yea true . ive been looking through text and tests for some odd questions tht they could ask and then they come out with the bull**** "well its on the course"

I hope you don't mean the drill table (by pressing mode,2,1).
Being tested on my 2 times tables would be really helpful alrite.....

Actually, I don't think that any of the allowable Sharp calculators currently have the Table function that's on the Casio fx-83 / fx-85. (Judging by their specifications on the Sharp website.)

I always thought they did have a table function. Must be a Casio only thing. I always find it useful when graphing functions or when finding the roots of a cubic or quadratic equation.

I use a Casio fx-300ES, it has a table function. I've had it since first year, bought it for $5 in Wal-Mart in America, never use anything else.

Used it in the Junior Cert. and there was no problem with it. They're like 8 or 9 Euro in Eason's if someone is stuck for one.

After putting all of those figures into my casio's table. I got a lot of numbers I can't make head nor tail of
Is F(x) the Y axis or something?

Please don't say that. I REALLY don't want to repeat.

    Yes it is.

    Yes it is.
    Ah right, thanks.

Is it normal for it to give all the points in decimal form?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 494 ✭✭PJelly

Oh, I'm after comparing it to wolfram alpha and it all makes sense now.
    Thanks :D

Well yes. Unless of course you know how to plot sqrt(3)/2 on a graph? :P

Well now that you mention it!
    No, no I cannot.

Is the explanation of the gen term of the binomial expansion in textsandtests5 (pg239) wrong???
    the last line:
    Ur=n(n-1)(n-2)...(n-r) .x^(r-1)
    (r-1)!

    Should this not be:

    Ur=n(n-1)(n-2)...(n-r+2) .x^(r-1)
    (r-1)!

    ??????

its nearly expected from them now though isnt it.
im thinking they might put somthin with locus' in it tbh

I've not seen the word locus outside of the elipse option question though?

Didn't see area of a circle outside Paper 2, Q4/5 either, though? :D

check pg365 of text and tests 4 example 4. its an odd question and right at the end of the circle chapter.

It's very easy but if it came up in the test and I didn't look at it now, I'd be mightily confused :p
