Can anyone tell me what kind of media file type support does this offer and whats it like for playing 1080i/p content ?

Is there any other receiver that can play multiple standards?

    It plays .ts files only

HD material is encrypted when recorded.

It is not designed to playback material from other sources eg. divX movies

Oh I though I read that it would play other formats, do you know of a receiver that will?

But you have to connect a external drive for recording which will cost more. I want a rock solid stable box that will record. Other than that the box looks good.

So is the Humax the best Sat receiver ?(I may just buy a separate media player)

Yes the Humax is as good as you'll get right now for sat recording.

A media player or a dvd player with capacity to playback material via a usb port is a good solution.

Humax Foxsat HDR is superb. Recommend you try and get at least the 500GB or now some suppliers offering 1TB versions - the disk (with HD recordings) fills quickly.....!

I got the 320GB one and fitted a 1.5TB drive in it.
Great box , very easy for all the family to use and reliable.
