So, there she is, my new Lady.

SLX tubing, but unfortunately the groupset is now Shimano 105, however I still like it ;).
I am currently on holidays and the bike was purchased mainly to be used when I am away.

I built this up as a budget sscx bike for the coming cx season. I raided the parts bin, and several boardsies donated bits n pieces - many thanks to them!

    Anyway, spec is
    surly cross check f&f
ritchey wcs rims on no name hubs
    ritchey stem
    orbea bars
    tektro levers
    fsa canti brakes
sram rival crank set with gxp bb
    campag seatpost with giant seat

Plan is to race it as a sscx for a race or two, and upgrade some of the parts over the season. Its currently running 34 19 gearing - I will see how i get on with that. Im using a 10spd freehub with spacers,so i have a full range of gearing to play around with. its about 9kg, with some sensible upgrades I could get it to about 8kg which would be decent enough for a steel budget bike. Watch this space!

excuse the pic - i will get some decent ones next time im out on it.

My trusted road bike a year old next week

This was taken the day I brought her home

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭rizzodun

I decided to get back cycling at the start of the summer, being more of a MTB guy I picked up my first ever road bike second-hand for €150, a Carrera Virtuoso, previous owner had added Look 247 pedals, Alex wheels and a set of triathlon bars (which I've taken off for the time being)

    2013_08_05_16_56_30.jpg

Been bitten by the bug again I picked this up this week, a Trek Mamba 29er for trail riding, it's in need of a clean after it's first ever time out!

Not the prettiest of builds, but it was done on a budget. Most of the stuff was just moved over from my old Charge Plug.

Few bits need to be changed over time, like a shorter stem, compact bars, and I need to get rid of those ugly heavy wheels. Weighs in at 8.9kg at the moment, so it's a bit on the heavy side but I'd say the wheels are at least 3kg of that.

My first road-bike and I built it :)

    finished.jpg

Ridley frame, Tiagra groupset, Deda compact bar, 2nd hand mavic aksium wheels and fizik saddle.

I learnt to ride a bike at the start of May and today I went over 50kph on a bike that I built! Having great craic with cycling.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭dave_o_brien

I've fairly reorganised my fleet over the last few months. Gone is my winter bike (which was basically the same as the Ridley above), replaced by a Paul Milnes cross bike and a spare set of wheels. Also replaced my Dolan track bike, which was a bit too big for me, with a Cervelo P2T.

Someone asked about the spec, which isn't allowed here. To help out, I've added what it is below, so no questions!

Now I have my Road Bike:
    269666.jpg

It's a Look 565 frameset. Built with Ultegra 6700, except for the brakes, which are now Sram Rival, having upgraded from 4za Cirrus, because their self-centring function was actually more of a curse than a blessing. Wheels are Campagnolo Scirocco 35mm CX with Ultremo ZX tyres. Deda carbon seatpost, Deda Zero 1 130mm stem and Deda RHM01 bars in 44cm. Look Keo 2 Max pedals in white, Fizik Microtech Bar tape in white and a Specialized Toupe in white to finish. A couple of aluminium bottle cages by Red and yer done.

    Cross Bike:
    269669.jpg

It's a Paul Milnes Team Cross SL, with 105 throughout, except the chainset which is Ultegra, and the brakes, which I can't remember... The stem is a cheap Funn 120mm stem I got off CRC after getting the bike, the bars are ITM Alutech 42cm and the seatpost is a Richie Pro topped again with a Specialized Toupe. Bar tape is Deda, which is super comfy, and wrapped on top of the tape the bike came with for extra cush. Shimano M520 pedals. Two sets of Mavic Aksiums, one shod in Michelin Pro 3's, the other shod in Maxxis Mimo's for cross.

    Track Bike:
    269668.jpg

It's a Cervelo P2T, with Navigator Pista wheels shod in Continental Ultra's, which will soon be replaced with Michelin Pro 3's. Miche Primato chainset. This set up has a 70mm 35 degree BBB stem with Vision aero base bars and Profile Design aero extensions. It's also seen with a specialized 16 degree 120mm stem with a set of 3T ergonova pro aluminium bars in 42cm. Saddle is a Specialized Tritip, which I only just got. When I cycle to the track, I stick on one of the 4za brakes I took off the road bike, because I like being able to stop.

Must say, I'm pretty happy with my lot now. Some fancy wheels for the Cervelo, and I'll be content.

2011 Trek Madone 4.5, with Ultegra calipers, on Ksyrium Elites, Conti GP4000s 23mm tyres. MTB PSD pedals ;)

2009 Reign X1, KS LEV seatpost, 200mm/180mm discs, yellow front spring, 600lb rear spring, 2.5 tacky Minion DHF/DHR or 2.25 ADdvantages. Shimano XT SPDs

2010 singlespeed commuter bike, Shimano 105 brake calipers and pads and 23mm Gatorskins.

After this Summer's Alpine trip I can see an opening for a decent 8-9" DH rig, as well as a light XC/Enduro rig.. Lottery wins only I think.

New bike just built up. Still have to sort out bars and saddle height and steerer tube needs to be cut. Scott Cr1 pro frame, Mavic kysrium elite wheels, Shimano Ultegra Di2. Bars are Ritchey, stem and seat post Deda elementi and a prologo saddle. Didn't set out to make it really light but as it is it weighs around 7.5kg so not bad for a bike with Di2.

Cannibalised my good bike to build up a winter bike, with a view to picking up some fancier bits for the good bike (SRAM force grouppo) between now and the beginning of next season...

Not sure if its uploaded properly but here's my steed, pic one is the day after I got it, pic 2 is as it currently stands, shifters changed from tiagra to 105, saddle swapped to fizik, bars swapped to Easton aero bars, wheels changed to Mavis akisum

I had already posted it, but as I changed some parts here it is again, replaced the suspension fork and as this caused the cockpit to be a bit low I got a new stem and handlebar. Finally managed to get some mudguards:D

So, the Lusk Doyle family has undergone a fair old expansion this year. The two specializeds were joined by a Cervelo R3 SL at the start of the year and those three have just been joined by a Scott CX bike and a Felt B2 Pro TT bike.

So I now have FIVE babies!!!

Oh yeah, the missus had a baby boy two months ago too!
