how are you going to secure your connection between your server and your uncles workstations?

are you able to setup VPN connections between your uncles site and your domain to ensure some sort of security?

how are you going to manage backups of your uncles files?

what sort of bandwith has broadband connection got?

I think you would be better off advising your uncle to use some sort of cloud based storage solution

and then buying a NAS box for your own home use

okay just a few more questions to make sure you have thought this through

but what about backups? where are you going to store them offsite?

what bandwidth is your internet connection?

It doesn't sound like a good idea on any level really. Tell your uncle to invest in a server/nas for storage and a reliable backup system for himself and keep your own gaming/file server for yourself.
