Croatia and poland have both sacked their coaches, bit surprising to hear the croatian coach getting sacked seeing as they are in the play offs but did lose to scotland twice.

With all due respect they are shocking results particularly the home loss. Niko Kovac is taking over for the play-offs. Find it impossible to pick a favourite at this stage seen a bit of Argentina, Germany & Spain the last week and to quote GSP I was not impressed with any of them when they were asked to defend even against the likes of Peru & Belarus.

Losing at home to Honduras and drawing at home with Jamaica were poor results, but I'd say their cause wasn't helped with the participation in the Confederations Cup. That meant that they had to play 3 qualification games in a week, in three different countries, with one eye on the Confederations Cup.

That's a really poor excuse and just not relevant. They have played badly the entire year. The Confederation's Cup was nowhere to be found Tuesday when they lost a do-or-die match vs a team that had already qualified.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

Yeah your right, they certainly have had a mixed bag of results across the board this year. Played 22 games this year, Won 7, Drew 8, Lost 7. They seem to play double the amount of national games compared to teams in Europe.

I just seem to remember them holding their own quite well against Brazil and Italy in the Confed Cup even though they went on to lose both.

They're probably thankful they don't have Uruguay in the play-offs, although New Zealand will definitely give them a run for their money.

    Iceland v Croatia

Three cracking games drawn there. Croatia should comfortably beat Iceland but the other three ties are really evenly matched.

Interesting draw- the World Cup will be poorer though without either a Ronaldo or Ibra in their prime...

I can't see Romania socring enough goals against that miserly Greek team to win both games. Famous last words but I think we are safe (assuming the Euros draw is done the way we think).

Bar them two neither side have got a player anyway near their quality, not easy of course but both are very average depth wise compared to 5-8 years ago.

I'm torn between my man love for Ibra or Ronaldo, one of the worlds greatest, missing the WC.

For the underdog factor I'm hoping Iceland can do it too.

Yeah, it's almost tragic one of the games great talents won't be there. You also have the likes of Alaba not being there either.

Maybe they'll let the loser play for one of the weaker teams, give them a fair chance :pac:

That goal has knocked the stuffing out of Jordan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

That was all far far too easy for Uruguay. Jordan were fairly hopeless.

Great free kick by Cavani at the end the best of the 5 goals. 5 goals and no Suarez goal, would have got good odds on that.

I read that financially FIFA cannot afford to have Portugal and Mexico miss out on a world cup in Brazil.

I do expect Portugal to go through on their own bat, Mexico may need a helping hand though.

Will cheer on Iceland. Croatia are toilet at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭roanoke

5-0 away win for Uruguay? I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict we'll be seeing Suarez and co at the WC now.

Really was a joke of a match, and if FIFA get their way in limiting European and South Americans teams to make way for more African and Asian teams in the finals, then we'll just be seeing those joke games in June and July instead of now.

Ironically Sweden (Portugals opponents) would be on any Top10 list of most desired qualifiers from a hosts point of view. Travel in massive numbers and also aren't shy about spending their money when they get there.

Guess Portugal meeting Sweden proves the draw wasn't fixed anyway.

Imagine if Blatter has his way Jordon would have qualified already for the WC if they introduced 40 teams. Crazy.

That's Platini. Blatter's is they would have qualified and Uruguay wouldn't have had the playoff

Well France is far bigger population-wise!

God, you have to feel for Jordan there.

As bas as NZ had it against Mexico, they at least know they didn't have to play that Uruguay team!

Iceland 0 -0 Croatia Full Time.

Iceland played with 10 men for most of 2nd half.

I feel Iceland needed to win, but conceding no goal gives them a chance. All be it slim one.
