Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Kazakhstan V Germany

Germany have just lost their last fit striker, probably won't matter for the win.

If Russia win by more than a goal tonight along with a Colombia win then Portugal will have cost me €1340 .

F*ck Postiga for those terrible misses in the first half.

Didn't think the Russians would be averse to a bit of snow :p

South America is the only region I enjoy watching qualification football because you're usually guaranteed most games will be of a good standard. Don't think the Argies will have it their own way against Venezuela tonight who are one of the most improved teams in world football, extremely disciplined at the back and Messi an co may have to grind out a 1-0 here.

Big game for Chile against rivals Peru, no way a team of their quality should be as low in the table, without Vidal tonight which isn't ideal.

New Zealand scored a 94th minute winner today to beat New Caledonia 2-1 and thus win the Oceania third round group. Tommy Smith of Ipswich scored the winner. They will now play the team that finishes 4th in the CONCACAF group (North and Central America) in a two-legged play-off in November to qualify for the World Cup.

    Saw this on BBC:
BBC Scotland reporter Chick Young on BBC Sportsound: "A supporter breached the first line of security at the final whistle and started waving his ticket at Gordon Strachan saying he had paid £30 and had to watch that. He was a big lad and took around four or five stewards to take him down.

    Was this shown on TV?

Most eye-catching result of the night imho : Norway 0-1 Albania.

I don't know how I'd missed it up to now, but that group (group E) is shaping up to be one of the most bizarre looking groups I've ever seen. The first seeds (Norway - odd in itself) have pretty much flopped and it's created a sort of mini-league for 2nd place amongst Albania/Iceland/Norway.

Honestly, just look at the make up of that group ....... and then here we are busting our bollix against Germany and Sweden.

Actually that reminds me - what a cracker coming up on Tuesday. France v Spain in Paris. A France win may consign Spain to the playoffs as they will be 5 points behind!! Now that would be a nightmare draw!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,516 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Big shout-out to Bosnia&Herzo as well. Taken a huge grip on their group with 4 points from 6 v Greece meaning their three point lead is effectively four. Should be able to get the job done against Latvia, Lithuania and Liechstenstein, and only a disaster against Slovakia in the double header can stop them.

Deserve a auto qualification after double play-off heartache against Portugal.

We were the same seeds as Switzerland. I think we might have been in the same position as them had that been our draw.

Belgium look to have finally got their act together. Will defo get a playoff at least but should really win the group and qualify for something. I remember since about 2008 expecting them to do something but they kept flattering to deceive.

Amazing draw for Finland. They won't finish anywhere near Spain or France but that draw may help their FIFA rankings in the future.

Cyprus 0-0 Switzerland - both teams will see that as 2 points dropped.

Another great win for Colombia last night beating Bolivia 5-0. They're well away now; 4 wins in a row has seen them rise to second in the group. Jose Peckerman is doing a fantastic job there.

Argentina will secure qualification for the World Cup on Tuesday if they beat Bolivia.

Yeah Columbia very powerful at the moment. Given the close to home field advantage in 2014, I'd have them behind Brazil, Argies, Spain and Germany as the next most likely winners.

Uruguay seem to have peaked a few years ago with the likes of Diego, Rios and Lugano now pushing on. Still strong but can't see them doing as well as in South Africa or the Copa.

Bit of controversy in the CONCACAF qualifiers last night. USA's game against Costa Rica was played in Denver (over 1500 metres above ground) in weather that made Northern Ireland's this weekend look nearly tropical.
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyexdb_1-tiempo-usa-cr_sport?start=29#.UU5DfBx7Ltt

USA won the game 1-0 but Costa Rica ain't happy about being made play in that weather.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,040 ✭✭✭markie29

not surprised it was a farce the game went ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Did they object before hand? If not, they wont get anywhere as it'll look like they are only unhappy because they lost. Shocking conditions either way.

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

The impact of having to play in Mile High City cannot be underestimated. It's a big advantage for the likes of the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, although they are very good home and on the road this season, teams travelling there have struggled even when the Nuggets weren't all that great back in the day.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,443 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

I heard that Costa Rica had refused to play but can't find anything official about that. It got so much worse in the second half by the looks of it:
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyeygi_2tiempo-usa-cr_sport#.UU7rtxx7Ltt
Around the 55th minute, the referee appeared ready to call off the game but after discussing it with officials he decided to play on. Bit suspicious seeing as the US were in desperate need of a win after losing their first game against Honduras.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,516 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

The USA team wouldn't have much of an advantage playing in MHC though.

Its not like a local team (Nuggets, Broncos) who live there and have adapted - USA soccer players coming from LA or NY would be as equally affected by the altitude as Costa Rica.
