Good result for Montenegro there, equalising to get the draw v England and stay top.

Just watched Strachan give a press conference on sky sports news, going on about his players being surprised by the pitch, the fact the Serbians were bigger lads and that he didn't have any bigger lads on the bench except for Charlie Adam, then some crap about having bigger hearts.

One of the worst interviews I have ever seen.

Anyone hear an attendance for the Mexico/USA match? They were anticipating over 100,000.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,116 ✭✭✭Professional Griefer

    Attendance: 105,000, according to ESPN.

I remember watching the Gold Cup final in 2011 between the 2, attendance was 93,420, finished 4-2, dos Santos scored a unreal goal.

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

Was certainly over 100K in attendance anyway. The game was very disappointing. Mexico v USA games usually were always highly entertaining in the past, last couple have been poor.

    June Qualification games

    Asia Zone
    4th June

    Lebanon V South Korea

Lebanon are beating Korea in the most one sided game ever. Korea should have 5 or 6 goals by now but the ball just wont go in! It's unbelievable..5 minutes to rescue it.

..and Kim Chi-woo scores from a freekick in the 96th minute. They've managed a draw.

The Korea - Iran game in 14 days will be very interesting if both teams win their next matches. Winner goes to the WC, loser has to go through a play off.

Big night in South American qualification tonight, Columbia and Chile should strengthen their automatic qualification positions with handy enough home games. Key tie is Venezuela vs Uruguay, you'd think if Uruguay are going to have any hope of rescuing a spot they need an away win tonight, not an easy task though, Venezuela are the most improved SA side considering their usual whipping boys status they've come a long way of late and boast a very good home record.

Ecuador are a good side alright. South American international football is very good the moment. Some good sides outside the traditional powerhouses. Uruguay's positioning in the qualifying table is testament to the competitiveness.

Ethiopia aren't through yet and South Africa still have a chance. FIFA announced tonight that Ethiopia being investigated for fielding an ineligible player against Botswana on June 8th, which they did, and they will lose the 3 points meaning their lead is cut to 2. CA Republic vs Ethiopia & South Africa vs Botswana are the final games of the group on September 6th.

South Korea and Iran are playing now, it's live on Eurosport 2. Draw for Korea guarantees 1st spot, win for Iran guarantees 1st spot. Draw should put both through unless Uzbekistan get a big win against Qatar. Nicely set up.

I watched the game and I agree , tbh it annoys me they are there when they get such a handy route to the WC 2014 when teams in Europe have such a hard task . Same with New Zealand route but that's geography I suppose.

New Zealand still have to play a team from North America that always changes.

Last time it was a team from Asia and the last time Australia where in that zone they had to play Uruguay

Just had a look at the team. Still relying on the likes of Schwarzer, Neill, Bresciano, Cahill, Wilkshire, etc. Not going to pretend I know what quality is in the A-League, but the Aussie's seem to be struggling to produce talented young players these days. That team is a far cry to what pushed Italy all the way in the World Cup in 06.

South Korea 0-1 Iran, Iran have qualified for the World Cup.

Uzbekistan have not scored enough goals so Korea finish 2nd and qualify too. Uzbekistan go through to the next round of qualifying and will play Jordan or Oman.

Queiroz and his coaching staff acted like proper tits at FT, shouting and jumping in the direction of the Korea bench because of what was said after the last game between them.

I watched the game and I agree , tbh it annoys me they are there when they get such a handy route to the WC 2014 when teams in Europe have such a hard task . Same with New Zealand route but that's geography I suppose.

Asia isn't *that* handy, there's some very good teams in there. More competitive than Oceania was by some distance anyway.

The A-League is actually producing players good enough to play, the manager just won't play them.

Robbie Kruse started against Jordan and had a goal and two assists for example, it took a move to Germany for him to get a run.

Same for Tom Rogic who moved to Celtic in January, he only came off the bench though tonight and should've started instead of Brett Holman.

The old guard have done well but they're on their last legs. Many said that after 2010 though too.
