02 vw passat key??

    I recently bought a 2002 vw passat tdi and the previous owner only had one key in which the batteries were dead. When I bought new batteries and got them put in in halfords the remote central locking still wasn't working but the led in the key now lights to show the new batteries work. Does anyone know if there is a way to reprogramme the key without having a second key as I think it lost the programme from the long term dead battery. I don't really want to go to a dealer and get ripped off so any help would be great.
