Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Heading to Berlin for 4 days with 6 other lads from college-14th to 18th of July, staying in a hostel in the Eastern part of the city.

Any recommendation for things to do/avoid?

    Thanks in advance!

    check out http://berlin.unlike.net/ for starters.

Berlin is chock-full of events, bars, places to eat, so it depends what you are into. There is a pub crawl which leaves from Hackeschermarkt at around 8 every evening if you're into that, check out qype.de and input e.g: food Friedrichshain to find somewhere to eat in your area (or club or, or!)

    Have fun!

The free Berlin walking tour, which takes in all the major attractions. It takes around 3 hours and you are shown around all the historical monuments by expert guides. www.newberlintours.com

Go to the Checkpoint Charlie museum, its excellent, if a little faded.
Has a homemade hot-air balloon used by escapees to get from East to West!

Do the bus tour first thing to get your bearings, it'll make finding your way home a lot easier.

The bus tour isn't bad, but to be honest, you're better off buying a normal bus day-ticket (or 3 day ticket or whichever you think you'll need) and taking the 100 Bus that stops at all the major attractions and ich much cheaper - unless of yourse you want commentary on all the site, then, by all means do the hop on - hop off tour.

Check here for ticket prices http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/index.html

If you have the time, take the S1 train to Oranienburg and take a look at the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp (train journey about 40 mins from the centre and a short walk / bus ride from Oranienburg train station)

If the weather is good have a barbeque and a few beers at Tempelhof, it's an old disused airport that has been turned into a public park and is really really cool!

By far the best way to see the city is by bike imo, there are bicycle lanes everywhere and bikes have priority over cars on some streets unlike here where you would be blown off the road for cycling. The city is pretty flat also which makes it easy. You can rent bikes for a few days and you can even bring them on the U-Bahn if you are too lazy/drunk to cycle home.

On a Sunday afternoon there is "bearpit karaoke" at Mauerpark which is really cool even if you're not into karaoke (I'm not). Just get a few beers from the spatkauf around the corner and sit in the sun!

There is plenty of really top class clubs around Warschauer Strasse U/S-Bahn stations but imo stay away from Club Matrix, it isn't like a Berlin club at all! Watergate, Kiki Blowfeld, Kleine Reise, Maria am Ostbahnof, Tresor and if you can get in Berghain are some of the best. Check out Badeschiff too, it's a bar with a swimming pool floating in the river.

There are some nice lakes not too far outside the city too, Schlachtensee is nice but gets super packed on hot days, Plotzensee is nice for a swim too.

The awesome thing is, you can drink a few beers anywhere, walking along the street, on the U-Bahn, just sitting in the park which is really nice. There are some nice bars along the river in Kreuzberg too which are worth checking out.

Enjoy it, it's an amazing city!

Two other bars to check out - Club Der Visionaere and Bar 25. Bar 25 is unreal! We got there at 2am and stayed until 8.30am. There's swing out over the river and banging music all night, great place.

Any ideas on what to see in Berlin in 3 hours? Have very limited time so things in the city and walking distance or accessible by bus from near the Tierpark would be great.
Have the Brandenburg Gate on the list and the Berlin Wall memorial. Also was thinking of the Checkpoint Charlie and the museum. What are the best attractions to see in under 3 hours?
    Thanks.

I would add Reichstag to that. Beware there is usually a queue!
